Shooting Tripod: Bog Pod vs Primos Trigger Stick. Anyone try either one?

    Hi guys,

I may never go to Africa but I can sure practice like I'll get to go someday. I have a safari rifle that's "fun" to shoot and I'd like to get a shooting tripod for standing shots.

I would also like it to do double duty for long range plinking large steel targets (300-700 yards) with my 7x57 sitting on the ground.

I'm looking at the BOG POD camo legged devil vs the primos gen 2 trigger stick. The bog pod looks VERY sturdy, but looks about as fast to set up as a camera tripod on a movie set. The trigger stick sets up fast on any terrain (LR plinking happens on dirt and rocks), but I worry that it may not hold up to the abuse of dozens of rounds of a really big bore rifle.

Anyone have experience? I'd like the primos if it's sturdy enough to last. The bog pod is a couple bucks cheaper though and looks like it could survive anything. But long setup means its not as versatile, so it'll likely get used less.

Can anyone comment on the primos sturdiness?

Do not get the primos . It is a pile of crap and they will not stand behind it. I bought one the tall tripod model for a big hunt this last year . The mounting threads are a problem . They designed it so the outer thread sleeve will retract and a smaller diameter scope , camera etc. can be threaded on the same post. I mounted my spotting scope and everything was fine until I tried to unscrew it. The plastic nut holder that retains the threaded portion was deformed and allowed the post to spin after I unthreaded the scope approx. 1/8". Now my scope is loose and I cant tighten or loosen. I called customer service and while the rep was nice , they had no solution to remove my $1000.00 scope. She said I could cut the stud off but it would void the warranty and they offered me a 50% discount towards a new tripod replacement as they do not sell replacement parts . It was used 1 time ! Scope went on and had to be cut off! I told her that was insane and would not spend another dime on my brand new $150.00 tripod which most likely would have the same potential problem. I ended up replacing the threaded portion my self with just a standard stud and now it works with absolutely no help from primos other than to a discount on a replacement.

I've heard good things about the bog pod, the primos has had issues . I would google both and read some reviews .

I used a bog pod on one hunt that the guide provided and I loved it. Will be getting one for sure. It was really light and quick to setup. I don't know how it will hold up though for heavy duty plinking use. It's intentionally lightweight for ease of carry. For what your describing you might want to make some wooden traditional shooting sticks.
