6mm Creedmoor

Whats up guys. I just started shooting medium range with my remington 700 (308). Its the bull barrel 18inch barrel in a B&C stock. Farthest I've shot with it is 600 yards. Ive been looking around for a out of the box 6.5mm creedmoor. Just wanted some help...someone to point me in the right direction or convince me of a better cartridge for long range shooting (1,000yds). Just started reloading too.

I dont know of anyone that makes a factory 6mm creed except George at GAP.....

Most people take a 700 or custom action and get a Bartlein barrel spun on in 6mm creed.

It's compatible with your 308 action/boltface and magazines. Barrel swap is all it takes.

No one has factory ammo either- you need to reload for it.

I picked up a Savage 12 LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor. It's going to be my 1000 yard gun and I'm happy with it so far. I reload so can't say much about the factory rounds but took it to the range this weekend and was happy with the results. 5 shot groups at 100, 200, and 300 yards ran an honest 0.6MOA off of a bench with bipod and rear sand bag. I'll be picking up some Hornady 140gr A-Max factory loads to see what they do but not sure when.

The rifle was about $1200 and I put a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP on top of it for about $900. I also needed a 20MOA base and of course the rings.

I did have an issue with the rifle but Savage took care of it for me. I was happy with their coustomer service.

It's a heavy rifle so you aren't going to carry it around on hunting trips.

Do you plan on handloading for it or shooting factory rounds?

Your factory options for 6.5 Creedmoor rifles are very slim.
I can rebarrel youur existing 308 rifle to a 6.5Creedmoor though.
All you really need to swap out is the barrel, but I recommend you also put on a new recoil lug at the same time.

I have shot Hornady 6.5 Creedmore factory ammo in my Ruger and to be honest both boxes I tried SuCk big time. Handloads are the only way to go. The Hornady brass I am using also has a nasty habit of collapsing at the shoulder so care is required. It might just be a Hornady soft brass thing but not having tried any other I can't compare. It shoots good and I think it will make a good replacement for my my Ruger 77 in 7.62X39 as a hunting rifle, we will see. HTH

It's could be your rifle. Factory Hornady 6.5 ammo is probably the best factory ammo I've ever used, and I typically handload EVERYTHING.

My rifle is not a special custom build it is a box stock factory rifle. In my opinion it's rougher than a cob, Ruger is a huge disappointment to me in these days. If I were to take one of my others say a good 98 action and build a decent rifle it "might" be a bit better with factory ammo but I would be willing to bet my hand loads would still out shoot them. Hey it could be a crapy rifle, it wouldn't surprise me a bit. But the groups did shrink from 3-4 inches using the factory ammo to well under 1 inch. Nice group your showing there.

Odd.... I reload so I roll my own 6.5 with 140 amax, but heard plenty of people say the factory loaded ammo is good stuff....

amax might be good but the ammo I am referring to is Hornady #81497 129 gr. Interbond and #81490 120 gr. GMX. Neither one shoots worth a pile of road apples for me in my rifle. This is a hunting rifle and I don't use it to shoot match or plan to shoot a match with it. The Swift Scirocco II and Sierra 120 gr. loads are for hunting and both go slightly under 1" at the exact same point on aim and impact at 100 yards.

Hornady factory 140's shoot sub moa out of both my Savage LRP and Stiller action rifles. Handloads are certainly more consistent but there's nothing wrong with the factory match ammo. I've also never paid more that $24/box for it. Winchester is making match ammo for it now, I've got some but haven't tried it out yet.
