Hey, just got a couple of questions. I'm looking at getting a bolt action in 6.5 creedmoor. I'm building my gun from scratch and its the first time I've done so, so I want to make sure I have everything covered. I'm going to get a 28" barrel in 1:8" twist and I've to a line on a Remington 700 donor action that I'm going to get trued. Later I want to put a Timmey or Jewel trigger in it, but will stick with the factory trigger that it has on it for now. Now comes my biggest point of indecision, what chassis to put it on? For this, I'm going to be stretching to put $500 on it, but I am unsure what is actually worth getting at this price range. Please help me here. I've got a 10x scope that I'm going to put on it until I can get enough cash together for something better. Please help me with the chassis, and let me know if I'm being oblivious and forgetting something. Thank you.

I'm sorry; I should have specificed. I really like how the MDT TAC21 feels (I got to play with one for a while) and I was hoping that I could get a chassis system like that.Comment

If your stretching to put that on it, save up a couple dollars more. TBH, 6.5 CM ammo isn't cheap so if you can afford to feed it, you should be able to afford the stock you want.Comment

Why not skip the action truing and put that money towards glass or a good stock and bedding job?
I thought that truing the action would make the rifle more accurate, and that it would remove any problems that a previous owner of a action might cause. Also, if you could get a TAC21 style stock, I thought you didn't need to bed the action?Comment

The first question asked should be what is the intended use of the rifle?

90-95% of the intrinsic accuracy of a rifle is in the barrel and how well it was chambered and fitted to the receiver.
In order for truing to help, you would also plan on replacing the bolt with an oversized bolt that will tighten up the fit of the bolt body to the receiver after the receiver has been opened up during truing.
Truing a receiver without putting in a tighter fitting bolt will give exactly zero benefit.
