Howa's are good rifles. They are the barreled action for the Weatherby Vanguard.
"I" would not buy the package. "I" would buy the rifle and mount a Leupold on it unless it is a 223 and going to be a fun gunA 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I bought a Howa .308 Targetmaster at Turner's. I will do a range report when its outta jail..
I will say from intital inspection it does appear to better made than the Remington 700 SPS tactical I had. Better in terms of bolt and fit and finish."All that is complex is not useful. All that is useful is simple."

I did some research, and Howa guns are made in Japan, so the work ethics and quality control must sure be higher than Freedom group/Remington.Comment

Yes, the Japanese are known for attention to detail and quality. It's a cultural thing and pride.
Remington has gone down hill."All that is complex is not useful. All that is useful is simple."

Should have seen me the other day. Was bashing my Remington 770 30.06 while talking with my buddy. As I open the bolt to pull the spent shell out, I pull back and the bolt ends up in my lap.
The bolt lock was still locked.

Remington is just a " name brand", a established one at that. A company can either continue producing a quality product and carry on that legacy. Remington has done the opposite of that. Freedom group bought them out, now it's subpar product. I used to own a SPS Tactical. I got rid of it. The finish was prone to rust.
I'm glad people don't know the HOWA name as much as Remington.
If you knew anything about them, you would know the m16 extractor on the HOWA's is much better the Remington's. They also outshoot them out of the box.

Howa is also the manufacturer of the Japanese military's Type 89 5.56 rifle, which unfortunately no one can't get here in the US due to restrictions on Japanese military hardware export laws.
"Prohibit the peasants from owning katanas, wakizashis, arrows, spears, or matchlock rifles. If the peasants are armed, they will not pay nengu (taxes) and they will not be subordinate to the officials."
Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Sword Hunt Edict of 1588, establishing the class division between the peasants (commoners) and the samurai (the governing elites).
