    A Workhorse 1911

I'm at the time and age in my life where I don't have the money to own any safe queens -every gun I got is a working gun. "It's a tool not a jewel" applies here. I work at a range/gun shop in SoCal and it's a workhorse 1911 that I carry, teach, and train with on a daily basis. Thought you guys would like to see a well worn 1911. I first bought it off the rental wall at work, then dumped a bunch of time and money into upgrading it into the EXACT 1911 I wanted -it starting life as a stock Springfield Mil-Spec but it's changed quite a bit. Enjoy!

Showing a little bit of holster wear.

    The business end.

The Ed Brown grips have seen better days.

I'm not afraid push myself and my guns to the failure point to find out where that is exactly.

Another tac night with the employees after work.

A reliability test I did for my youtube channel -it went pretty far before we started to have problems but every gun jams at some point -you have to go out and find that point.

Never know what lesson/class could pop up during the day, so I bring it all. I have a bunch of metal 30s from the Army days so I had them permanently modified to only hold ten rounds -might as well get use out of them.

It shoots great and I love it. Sometimes it's a pain to carry all day but most the time I'm glad to have it. I've had several regulars and a couple employees offer to buy it but I don't think I could ever sell it. I've spent a lot of money and time getting the right training, tools, and jigs to properly work on the 1911 and I literally made this one up just for me personally. Hope you guys enjoyed the look, I'm open for any questions!

Great to see a working gun in the environment, thanks for sharing. Which mods did you do to it? Did it make a trip to SACS? Do you use that racquet case to carry your taken down AR to the range?

I bought the gun as a stock SA Mil-Spec and I gutted everything -the only thing left from Springfield is the frame, slide, and barrel. I thought the barrel would have to go being that it was a rental gun for about a year but the barrel still does about 3" at 25 yards -I'm happy with that. Most of the internals are Ed Brown, between the rebuild kit, the perfection sear, disconnector, and just about everything else. Ed Brown "memory groove" grip safety, which meant I had to take off material on the back of the frame to accept a modern grip safety. Ed Brown chainlink mainspring housing, hammer, trigger, the works. Meprolight rear sight, Trijicon front sight, Kimber bushing. Right now it's got a Wilson 18lb recoil spring and buffer because I've been shooting a lot of +P and Buffalo Bore recently. I've been off and on again with the guide rod but I've landed on using the standard Browning recoil spring system -didn't notice anything good or bad one way or another except the guide rod does help when doing easier slide changes to the Kimber .22 conversion. Did all the mods myself, I've spent a lot of time and $$$ investing in the proper training and tools to do it right. I've built up several 1911 pistols to fully learn the platform -usually I'd buy it, build it, sell it and repeat, but I'm keeping this one.

Yes I use the tennis racket case for every day. Everything in that photo fits in the case and it allows for low-profile transport.

        Nice!

I love seeing guns that have worked for a living.

They can be just as beautiful as a safe queen.

Man, that is a thing of beauty. I really like the look of natural wear on a 1911. Thanks for sharing.

Way to put her through her paces. The wear adds a lot of character. When you say you upgraded the parts to exactly what you wanted, what make parts did you install? If you only replaced certain parts which ones did you replace?

Disregard my question as you already answered it. My curiosity beat out my patients to read the thread. You did a nice job!

i get way more enjoyment seeing my guns wear and get nice and dirty then when they were brand new, kind of a reminder of the good times had with them
