Heres my Desert Eagle I just picked up Monday. 44 Mag MarkVII. Got it on consignment.

What finish is that? Looks beautiful.

I did not know that it looks duo tone. They told me black oxide at the gun shop. While deep cleaning the gun at home it turned out like this. Like titanium carbon nitride with black barrel. Did some research on the color.

call MRI and give them the serial number. I’m sure they can tell you the finish it came in, as well as the born on date.

i think that happens to the standard black oxide finish after years of dirtying. happened to the .44 DE i had a while back

There was another Desert Eagle at another gun shop but I ended up with this one. There are no scatches on the one I purchase, like same condition in a new box. The other DE was all fouled out and not well taken care of. I paid little extra but It was worth it. I talked to the original owner. Only 50 shots werre fired through the barrel. Hes a pretty old guy and only likes collecting guns. I'm satisfied, I like the color. I'm calling Magnum Research on Monday to find out what year it was made. Also the color.

Some time ago I noticed some discoloration in the finish of my DE. I thaught for sure I was going to have to refinish it. As a last ditch effort one day, I let it the slide and barrel set in a sealed tupperware container of M Pro 7 for several hours. I couldnt belive the crud that stuff pulled out of the finish. yuck. Well, after a wipe down with some CLP, all was good.

One thing I have noticed though, is that the black oxide finish tends to want to discolor if left un attended. This happened to me when just using CLP as a wipe down. Now I give it a nice coat of EEZOX and dont even worry about it. Granted, I trickly use that stuff as a protective coating.

As side not, if this is your first DE, use a good quality grease on the slide/frame rails and the bolt. MD Labs XF 7 works best for me, but you can allot you some Tetra grease. Grease just holds up better than oil for the most part with the DE.

I like the idea of the Robar NP3 for my black DE. I think I would like more information LTS15D, if you dont mind.

Aw man! I didn't even know about NP3 back when I had a DE.357. I (mostly) loved that gun, but cleaning was a pain, and it got dirty too quick.

NP3 is practically miraculous. I had a little Beretta Bobcat .22 LR coated, and it is super reliable, and practically never dirties. If I notice any build-up on it, a simple wipe with a paper towel gets it clean again.
