Why hasn't Glock made a medium sized .45ACP?

I mean I see on their website they have the G38 which looks to be the similar size as the G19/23, but thats in .45GAP which hardly anyone really wants. If they would make the G38 sized gun that uses .45ACP I would for sure buy one in a heartbeat, they kinda skipped over that size going from full size, to subcompact, to fat subcompact, to not so fat subcompact, to giant sized competition gun.


I don't know maybe its just me, but I would love to have a G19 sized .45ACP.

A 30 or 30S is 19 sized with a rail... very similar with the ten round mags.

They did, it's called a G30. I have no idea why they decided to call it a sub-compact, there is nothing sub-compact about it. Don't get me wrong, I love the GEN 4 G30/G30SF, I just don't know why they don't just call it what it is. The G36 is almost identical in size to the G19, so it's not really a sub-compact either.

The G30S is the same size and weight fully loaded as a G19 fully loaded.

A Glocksmith I know gave me this trivia info that Glock differentiates by length of slide:

less than 7 inches = sub-compact
7 to 7.5 inches = compact
7.5 or more = standard/full-size

G30 is just a tad shy of 7 inches (6.96 inches) so it's a "sub-compact" by Glock standards. I am skeptical as Glock is an Austrian company so why would they be using inches instead of the metric system, but so far, that seems to be the case.

My G30S is the pretty much the same size as my G23 and G19 (feels the same in hand), and also holds ten rounds of 45 ACP

It's all about marketing...

When the Glock 29/30 was first released they were marketed as "compacts".

When Glock 36 was about to be released, they changed what they were called. The Glock 29/30 became "subcompacts" and the Glock 36 became the slim frame "subcompact".

If you compare the Glock 29/30/36 with the compact Glocks (19/23/25/32/38) and subcompact Glocks (26/27/28/33/39), the Glock 29/30/36 are similar in size to the compact Glocks and larger the subcompact Glocks.

The Glock 30S and 36 can also use the same holsters as the compact Glock 19/23/25/32.
The Glock 30 and 30Gen4 can use the same holsters as the compact Glock 38.

I have a Glock 30S. As crufflers and k1dude mentioned it is just about the same size as a 19. The 30S is no "sub" either. Hickok45 on you tube has a decent video comparing the 23 and 30S. Around 13:30 or so.

Interesting, that's a new one for me. Now my question is why the hell didn't they just leave that extra 0.04" on the slide?

Enough said, I get it now. Glock's marketing has always left me scratching my head, but apparently they know what they're doing because it works.

Its the G30 bossman. I love mine. It's actually considered my concealed gun if I were have to conceal, its a real nice fit!

I dunno...I've owned a G30 up until last week...I traded it for a YZ125 2 stroke dirt bike, maybe I just have odd hands, but it feels nothing in size to my G19...I guess its just me, thanks for weighing in.

I guess they would be the same size if you use the mags with the bigger buttplate, but I like the way the G38 looks, my G30 used to always bite my pinky. ::shrugs::

If you're going to carry and conceal a G30 you might as well carry a G29.

My G30S fits perfect in a leather G19 holster

I've owned and carried a G27 and G30S -

If you were to blindfold me and insert one of the guns in its holster (30S with the 9-rd mag, and G27 with Pearce extension, which almost everyone uses on these), I will be unable to tell the difference whether I'm walking around with the G27 or G30S - fully loaded.

As far as I'm concerned, if the G27 (26 or 33) is subcompact, then so is the G30S.

I also have a P2000SK (SK=subcompact) and all 3 are about the same (again, G27 with Pearce, G30S with 9rd).
