Rimfire pistol recommendations

Thinking about buying a 22lr pistol for cheap plinking and was looking for some suggestions. So far I see the Ruger Mark series are pretty good pistols but curious what other models are good to go. I'm just trying to find something priced nicely but reliable. I've heard the sig mosquitos are pretty jamomatic.

You may wish to consider searching, as the merits of various .22LR pistols have been discussed before.

As you mentioned, there is the Ruger Mk. II/III or 22/45. There is also the Browning Buckmark series (many models). They seem to be the "Big Two" of the .22LR pistol market, and are probably the best value for a general .22LR plinking pistol.

I have a s&w model 41 and a browning buckmark. The model 41 is really nice but they are expensive. The buckmark is priced reasonable, shoots very well and is reliable. Can't say anything on the rugers. Mark

After owning a Mk III and shooting a Buckmark, I will go with Buckmark, but either one is a great pistol. I think the Buckmark is just that much better though.

Depends on what you're going to do with it. If you do like me and go crazy with replacing parts, just get the cheapest Camper model you can find.

Look for a used Ruger MkII 22/45 with the 5.5 inch bull barrel and target sights. You will be happy with that and it will run for years and years.
The Mk III has the disconnect thing so you can't shoot with the mag out which is annoying.

Between the buckmark and the ruger i think it just depends on which one feels better to you, as for myself I like the buckmark more, but would still like a ruger as well (can't have too many).

Buckmark and it comes in different flavors. I have the Camper and Standard model and they serve me well with all brands of cheap and premium 22lr.

You Ruger guys will probably pounce at me for this, but I reently got a Beretta U22 Neos (you know, the one that looks like a ray gun) with 6" barrel. I used it with CCI high velocity rounds. The indoor range I tried it at was 25 yards, and at that distance the trajectory was pretty much flat. There was practically no recoil (.22lr being what is it, and the gun is rather heavy, as well, mostly front-heavy), and it felt right in the hand. Cleaning it was easy, as well. The price was quite low, as well (I paid $244 plus DROS and taxes). I highly recomment it.

I know you said pistol but just in case you want to try a Revolver look at the Ruger Single Six's. You can get them for a good price and get them with the 22 Mag cylnder. Fun guns.

If you can find a used one, get the Hammerli Trailside. A great .22 pistol! (But you're not likely to find one.)

Trained on the Ruger Mark II and can't stand it. Feels awkward in my hand.

So as my first handgun I found the perfect Buck Mark Camper SS with bull barrel. Love it! Fits my female medium-sized hands well and its weight is hardly noticeable. (I shoot both hands.) Easy to shoot with too (esp. if you run a few hundred rounds through it initially).

The price on Buck Marks went up like 30 bucks over the summer. You can price shop them. Even shops that sell 'em for a certain price on Gallery of Guns will go down some when you negotiate in person. In a few months, when the economy is truly in the winter blahs, you'll probably be able to negotiate an even better price.
