I have been working on a ruger mk1. It consistently jams, the spent shell will only be pulled roughly halfways out, thus causing the bullet being fed to jam into it as the bolt cycles back. I decided to change the extractor, extractor spring, firing pin and the ejector since it was worn down also. Same problem. I do not belive it is a mag problem, seeing how the case gets stuck and I have to get it out with a knife. When I cycle the weapon by hand it does not jam. Any suggestions on what the problem is ir how I can fix it, was thinking of buying a .22lr reamer, but I dont think that will fix it seeing how it cycles by hand. I dont see any imperfections with chamber. Thank you

Clean the heck out of the chamber. -
If you load one round in the chamber, remove the mag and then fire does it eject the spent shell? If not I would clean the chamber well. You can also get a recoil spring assembly for $6.50 if you suspect a problem with the spring assembly. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/913...tainless-steel
Other users have reported that the new recoil spring assembly has fixed ejection and feeding issues. For the low price it would be worth it to try.Last edited by SkyHawk; 02-08-2015, 9:51 PM.Comment

I have a reamer you can use.
It should be easier to cycle an unfired round......a fired casing has expanded and is tighter against the chamber walls.
Check for peening at the mouth of the chamber. It should be visible. Most .22 lrs will peen the mouth of the chamber after enough dry firing. If it is peened at all, the reamer fixes it in about 10 seconds.
Also....clean the chamber thoroughly.Comment

Clean thoroughly as stated above.
I put in a Volquartsen extractor and that helped as well.Originally posted by Kestryll:

I have a MKII that's going on 20+ years... I distinctly remember as a kid the gun jamming up the way you described with failure to feeds and really bad extraction.
The gunsmith at the range took a small dental pick and started to peel away lead and other jacketed material from the bolt face and from inside the slide where the chamber wall is.
Apparently the bolt kept pounding the lead shavings into really thin layers into the slide to the point it was hard to notice. Just a possibility as the recommendation to clean the chamber has already been thrown out there..
Good luckAloha snackbar!Comment

I cleaned the chamber very well, and it jammed, I was going to clean it again when I noticed that the owner dried fired it alot and the spot the firing pin hit bent the metal downward
should I ream it?

Or can I get by by tapping it back out with a punchPoint your muzzle in a safe directionComment

Like I said......you can use my reamer. No charge. Takes a few seconds to fix the issue.Comment

My local gunsmith 'warned' me about dryfiring them years ago and how the firing pin can hit the that area. To avoid this he suggested that if you have to fire it without a round, pull the bolt back a 1/16 inch or so and then press the trigger. It will keep the firing pin from striking the barrel face.
As for your fix, Im not sure how you're going to use the punch but I'd probably just ream it and call it a day.Aloha snackbar!Comment

Thank you for the offer again bainter I appreciate it. But I think I will just buy one. The problem is I cannot locate one that has a long shaft, I cannot remove the barrel from the reciever.... so its a long ways to goPoint your muzzle in a safe directionComment
