I bought an mc operator last night and did a field strip on it in the store, but when i tried to put it back together i noticed the plunger for the slide stop was incredibly oversize to the point where i needed to use a credit card to depress it just to get the slide stop back in. Very strange issue for me but i don't have a whole lot of experience with the platform. The experience i do have tells me that not any I've tried needed a tool to put the slide stop back in. Is this normal to the model? Should i try to fix it? How would i fix it? Replacement?

Oversized plunger in a Springfield MC Operator?

I have a SAI 1911 with the same issue. I suppose you could change out the plunger, but I just use the credit card. It doesn't seem to affect function.
Another alternative is to mod the slide stop, similar to how Wilson ships their bulletproof parts. There is a little notch that guides the detent in. -
I noticed this on my Springfield Loaded, which is probably why the original owner ended up with an "idiot mark." Maybe it's a Springfield thing?Comment

If you'll pardon the pun, log man's modification is top notch.
This is a modification I do on just about all slide stops as it allows easy installation and doesn't affect function. It is easily done with a needle file. To install, the slide stop is positioned directly on top of the plunger and you can feel it saddle over it and push it straight in. Bingo...
