Have some question about race gun.

    Hi all:
i am a shooter from Canada.
Plan to shoot the Gold bullet this year.

but i have some question about bring pistol into California.

    first question.
Can i bring 2011 model open gun into California?

    second question about magazine.
Can i bring high capacity magazine into CA?
I will use arredondo Limit 10 Inserts & Kits to make it just can hold 10 run.
is it legal to bring into? or i only can pin it into 10 run.

The other question. if i can use arredondo insert.
can i use the magazine without insert in the match?
Will i get any trouble about this?

    one more question.
Is there any chance or place to buy 9MM major ammo?

    Thank you for your patience.

    Aye, that's racist ehhhhh!
You should look at the flow charts on the main page, and take back Drake and Bieber when you arrive, please. I will give you a case of 9 for these two errands.

I will throw in two more cases of 9mm if you are successful!

Make sure that your 2011 does not have a threaded barrel. A semi-auto with a detachable magazine and a threaded barrel is a felony, even if the threads are only for a compensator.

Any magazines that you import have to be permanently modified to accept no more than 10 rounds. A simple insert isn't going to be adequate.

I doubt that you'll find any source for 9mm major. I'm not aware of any 9mm recipes that will make major without going outside of SAAMI specs. Remember, California is king of the product liability lawsuit. Count the number of Prop 65 warning labels that you read while you're here.

You should be aware of the provisions of Penal Code section 30665. It does provide you some relief from the "Assault Weapon" law, but it comes with lots of provisions. Here is the text:

"Sections 30600, 30605, and 30610 shall not apply to the possession and importation of an assault weapon or a .50 BMG rifle into this state by a nonresident if all of the following conditions are met:

          (a) The person is attending or going directly to or coming directly from an organized competitive match or league competition that involves the use of an assault weapon or a .50 BMG rifle.

          (b) The competition or match is conducted on the premises of one of the following:

          (1) A target range that holds a regulatory or business license for the purpose of practicing shooting at that target range.

          (2) A target range of a public or private club or organization that is organized for the purpose of practicing shooting at targets.

          (c) The match or competition is sponsored by, conducted under the auspices of, or approved by, a law enforcement agency or a nationally or state recognized entity that fosters proficiency in, or promotes education about, firearms.

          (d) The assault weapon or .50 BMG rifle is transported in accordance with Section 25610 or Article 3 (commencing with Section 25505) of Chapter 2 of Division 5.

          (e) The person is 18 years of age or over and is not in a class of persons prohibited from possessing firearms by virtue of Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 29800) or Chapter 3 (commencing with Section 29900) of Division 9 of this code or Section 8100 or 8103 of the Welfare and Institutions Code."

Please note that section 30665 does not apply to large-capacity (more than 10 round) magazines.

I'll match Ronin's offer if you take Bieber back to Canada, and I'll offer some extra ammo if you keep Randy Quaid up there.

There some good info here about what needs to be done before crossing the border.
How to bring firearms into the U.S. Approvals required, hunting, shooting competitions, required forms, how to return to Canada with firearms and more.
            **** your feelings!

As was mentioned, the 2011 is probably OK as long as it doesn't have a threaded barrel, I think you're exempted from the Assault Weapon craziness.

Mags with more than 10 round capacity cannot be imported, so, as was also mentioned you'd have to permanently block your mags. The law says "permanent", but there is no clarity beyond that...just imagine a jury of idiots who hate guns trying to convict you if they can possibly convince themselves what you did wasn't intended to last forever. Usually, pinning + epoxy is recommended, but there is nothing in the law which supports that, it's just a very permanent-seeming way to block mags.

Maybe you can find someone who will let you borrow mags (good luck finding someone to loan to tuned, 10-rd mags for an open gun, but I guess stranger things have happened). Yes, it's a crime to loan standard capacity mags -- only 10-rounders can be loaned. Even so, you'd be shooting Open 10 against guys with full capacity mags -- not a recipe for victory in competition.

The ammo is probably the easiest, because it can be shipped into CA. Just UPS ground or Fed Ex ground ship your ammo to yourself. You can pick it up at any UPS store or Fed Ex location, or you could ship it to someone who would hold it for you, or perhaps the competition organizers will accept shipments of ammo -- many do. If you can find someone who sells it, they can ship it to you here in CA, or you could post on the Brian Enos forum and offer to buy some from someone who reloads here in CA, but your comp wouldn't be tuned for his load, your chamber might not like his OAL, etc, etc, etc.

Bottom line, it isn't impossible, but it's a long way from ideal...

                HI all:
                Thank for all your information.
i know how to prepare to bring gun into us for match.
but CA's low is more complicated.

my mags are ready pin into 10 run.

but the threaded barrel is bothered me.

the thread is mean the front part for install compensator?

but most OPEN gun need the thread to install compensator.

just want to make sue my gun is safe.

this is the barrel of my gun.

                Is this ok ?

Why i will decide to shoot in CA.= =

                Thank all you again.

                  How is the compensator attached?

I'm assuming that it's threaded with setscrews on the bottom from the photos.

That would amount to a felony in California.

There are two options that can make it California-legal:
                  1) Silver-solder the compensator to the barrel, or use some other technique to remove the threaded nature of the barrel.

                  2) Use a "Bullet Button" or some similar device to make the magazine fixed. Of course, this will greatly frustrate your ability to engage in competition.
You may want to give Penal Code section 30665 a close read. If the match sponsor, and location, meet the requirements of the code, you may lawfully use an "Assault Weapon" (which would be your evil race gun with the threaded barrel). You'll still need to use 10 round magazines however. If you go that route, I would recommend transporting the weapon with a non-threaded barrel installed.

If you're unable to come to California to compete, is there anything that we can do to get you to take Bieber back?
If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.

If you have to shoot 10 round mags in Open, you will be at a huge disadvantage. All the locals will have 20 round or more mags. Contact the match director and see what he recommends for people coming in from out of state.

There are 40 some other States that would be a better choice to field an Open Gun in.

That sounds like the better plan. As mentioned, the threaded barrel and 10+ rnd mags would have been a problem. A bullet button and/or shooting 10 rnd mags in Open makes you non-competitive. It's a sad state of affairs with gun laws in California.

You'll still need to purchase some 10 rnd mags for your Production gun. Good luck and have fun.

He probably already has 10 round magazines, if he's shooting production. If not, what gun are you going to use?
