Need help purchasing H&K USP Compact

    The firearm: 1999'ish H&K USP 9mm compact

The story: A coworker of mine who once lived in CA now lives in MA and cannot get the gun registered there. He would like to sell it to me and we are trying to figure out the logistics to make it happen. Can anyone provide any guidance? I believe he said the gun was being shipped from CA to his FFL in MA to just be held there until we can make the sale.

Is it as simple as he sending it to my FFL, me paying the fee's and waiting?
Also, can anyone give me an idea of what I should be paying him for it?

    Thanks!

    Is the Gun in California?

It should be an easy sale since its on Roster.

I would say $500 is a fair price.
    Current Armory:
    HK p7m8
    Dan Wesson Guardian 9mm
    Hi-Power Practical
    Baby Eagle 9mm
    P99 AS
    Glock 43

As long as it is on the CA roster. He can go to his local FFL, and have it shipped to your FFL. You DROS it when it arrives. Done.

there is no FFL required or 10 day wait on pre-2000 handguns. Just pay him with a personal check and take it home.

You can then walk into your local Police Department, show the officer at the front desk and let them know you need a Form 78R voluntary registration form. Make sure the mag is inserted (you'll need to demonstrate safe handling), but not loaded with ammo.

Post pics once you get it!

I'm not entirely sure what's going on right now but this is mildly amusing.

Just on the off chance that "rman" is not being facetious, please do not do this. It's a felony.

There are some versions of the USP 9mm Compact on the roster. If the weapon you're seeking matches the current roster listing, then all you have to do is have a California FFL import the weapon and transfer it to you. You're on the hook for fees and tax on the value of the weapon.

If the weapon isn't currently listed on the roster, you're pretty much outta luck.

                    You have been misinformed.

If it's not a roster compliant version it's cheap to have it converted to the V1 configuration which is on roster.

i forgot to mention that the handgun should not be concealed in any way when walking into the local PD.

that means not in your pocket, inside the waistband, on your ankle, not in the case. It must be carried in openly in your hand.

Police Departments are notoriously bright and windy on the inside. It is suggested that you wear sunglasses and a beanie.
