Point taken. But in this context I was treating it not so much as "you're wrong because you don't have the facts," and more as "you have the wrong information, because people keep spreading misinformation, as there is momentum built into the system trying to keep us thinking it's harder to exercise our rights than it really is." And that momentum quite often originates from intentional attempts at FUD.

Sent my nephew to the Vallejo Show to get his HSC in preparation to transfer one of my pistols to him (his 1st, a XD Service 45). He was advised that he would not be able to transfer unless his CA DL had a PHYSICAL address on it (his had a P.O. Box).

According to what I've seen in this thread, this was bogus then? It doesn't matter what address is on the ID card, as long as the address on your proof of residency and the address on the DROS are the same?

All firearms purchases and transfers, including private party transactions and sales at gun shows, must be made through a licensed dealer under the Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) process. California imposes a 10-day waiting period before a firearm can be released to a buyer or transferee. A person must be at least 18 years of age to purchase a rifle or shotgun. To buy a handgun, a person must be at least 21 years of age, and either 1) possess an HSC plus successfully complete a safety demonstration with the handgun being purchased or 2) qualify for an HSC exemption.

As part of the DROS process, the buyer must present "clear evidence of identity and age" which is defined as a valid, non-expired California Driver's License or Identification Card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. A military identification accompanied by permanent duty station orders indicating a posting in California is also acceptable.

If the buyer is not a U.S. Citizen, then he or she is required to demonstrate that he or she is legally within the United States by providing to the firearms dealer with documentation that contains his/her Alien Registration Number or I-94 Number.

Purchasers of handguns are also required to provide proof of California residency, such as a utility bill, residential lease, property deed, or government-issued identification (other than a drivers license or other DMV-issued identification).

The identity document need not have any residency information at all, so what your nephew experienced was incorrect.

Since I like to hedge my bets I made sure I got the new address change made with DMV since we recently moved and it didn't match. No big deal.

Got my HSC card today...walk in the park. Next will be checking availability with the maker to get estimated delivery date.

Went to Bright Spot Pawn to do a ppt today. The guy behind the counter said if I didnt have the change of address card no big deal. He would have had me write the new address on the photo copy of my ID and sign it.

You might also call the FFL and ask if the automobile insurance is valid, you have to legally be on the insured driver and the address has to be the garaged location of the car.
