    Front Strap Reduction?

I am thinking about sending my Gen 3 G19 to Robars for a front strap reduction. My hand fits better on Gen 4 grips; it's not much but it's noticeable. The goal here would be to preserve the Glock grip angle and take a few mm's off the front to mimic the dimensions of the Gen 4 grip. I will probably have them undercut the trigger guard a bit to allow a slightly higher grip on the gun and maybe remove the finger grooves.

Anyone have any experience with reducing the front strap? Anyone have any problems working with Robars?

Any feedback or alternatives appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It is plastic, could you not just DIY? I was thinking of undercutting the trigger guard on my 23 just a tad.

I think the Glockstore can do this for you. But I have all my glock grip work done at Rocky Mountain Weaponry. They do amazing work.

No experience with Robar, but I had Pike at Mod 1 Firearms do a reduction and trigger undercut on my G19 and it fits me like a glove. I also recommend his stippling, as it looks clean and makes controlling 9 milly recoil reminiscent of shooting .22. I'll post some pics later.

              OP-

I've been thinking about doing something just like you talk about. I've contacted Taran Tactical (a little far for you probably) about the possibility of altering the gen3 to feel like a gen4. I honestly didn't know if that was something they do. They asked me to give them a call and I have yet to do that

Looks ok to me. I'd DIY the trigger guard mod and remove the finger grooves but I don't have a blade for my iron that I think would be satisfactory to me for a stipple job.

Regarding trimming the front strap, I don't think that going to give you the grip reduction that you're looking for. It needs to come off the back of the grip especially at the web. The reach to the trigger is shorter on the gen 4 and that's were the difference is.

I wouldn't mind straightening the angle on the back of the grip to parallel the front strap. I think that would be worthwhile for my hands.

My 11 year old daughter shot my gen 4 G19 this morning and the grip suits her hands perfectly. I bought this gun with her in mind and she'll get it when she's older.

Thanks all. I will check out some of the alternatives listed here - Robars wait list is loong, like Hopeton mentioned.

As for whether the front strap reduction will work, that's kind of what I'd like to know too. In talking to the guys at Robars, they don't think they can reduce the back strap without changing the grip angle. I'd like to keep the grip angle the same so it points the same as my other pistols. Maybe not a huge deal, but I thought I would start with the front, and if necessary, do the back strap later.

pharazon - did you do the backstrap as well or just a front strap reduction?

I don't think so; I've got big hands and my fingers just don't line up correctly with the finger grooves on the compacts.

My G34 is currently 4 days overdue from Robar. It's already been 3 months.

If you want nice stippling/reduction that doesn't take months, I'd look at Enhance Precision Products, Tactical Textures & Triggers and Taran Tactical Innovations.
Well, I respectfully disagree. I chose the aggressive stippling option as I often shoot with gloves.

Some more examples from my preferred plastic melter:

Reviving a bit of an old thread for an update. I received positive answers from Taran Tactical and Rocky Mtn Weaponry; waiting on one more bit of info from RMW regarding pricing. They seem to be a bit more expensive but not by much. I looked at Boresight too but they are almost 2-3 times as much - seems like the do nice work but I don't want a $1000 G19 where the only modification is a really cool grip.

My frame made it to Taran yesterday. I'll keep you all posted. I went with them primarily because of all the folks I contacted, they were the most responsive. All of the various companies had good reputations and reviews but Taran simply had better communication and they seemed open to address my concerns.
