    ...

Just out of curiousity, what do bay are LGS charge to dros a new firearm? Everywhere ive gone has always been $25 for a new firearm, Tracy Rifle confirmed theres were also $25 and nothing more, Digital Instincts in Sunnyvale charged me a WHOPPING $75! UNHEARD OF!!! The guys at Tracy Rifle were pretty shocked. He says hes never heard of a $25 DROS fee, and actually said "how do they make money and stay in business with a $25 dros fee?" LMAO! I dont know what hes smoking.

But that was the last time I will ever do business with him again.

Any other experiences or is this normal in the bay?

*I personally didn't talk to OP*

Are you sure the other shops aren't thinking you are asking about a transfer into their store? DROS is/has been $25, each shop is required to post a sign that explains the fees.

The only way I can think of anyone telling you something different is if they are assuming you mean a transfer.

Was it a gun you bought from them or online and had it shipped to them?

Chris at Digital Instincts has always been fair with me. He charges $25.00 for DROS only. If you send a handgun to him and he does the transfer, he charges $75 which includes the DROS ($25 DROS + $50 transfer). That seems to be the norm around here.

i think you need to understand the difference between purely DROS'ing only which is $25 and FFL that acceps transfers and then DROS for you which is usually $75 ($25 DROS, and $50 transfer fee) at the lowest in the bay area.

MPARms in San Jose and RMB Enterprises in Milpitas both charge $65 for combined DROS and transfer. That is the cheapest I have found around here. As previously mentioned, $75 is more common.

Yes, it is important to distinguish the state-required fees that sum to $25 (DROS fee in shorthand discussion), and any other fee charged by the dealer. So long as a dealer does not represent that dealer fee as a state-required fee, there is no restriction on the dealer fee.

EXCEPTION: a PPT, where the dealer fee is limited by law to $10 and $10 only.

There are a few shops in the central valley that add a $10 dealer fee on all in-stock sales.
It used to really bug me until I calculated the actual gas costs for the two trips to Sac for one of my past purchases.
I'd really rather that the price of the gun be $10 more.

                  Isn't this illegal?

Refer to the Librarian's post. Basically, state mandates ppt is $10 and dros is $25. Anything else are dealer fees which are not regulated by the state.

I've seen 2 shops charge an extra $10 for paperwork fee
That's on guns they had in the shelf
Two stores that I give my business TRP & elite firearms in Manteca
Both are about 45 minutes from me
                      Great prices and friendly staff
