Usually not my taste. Still isn't but it's not bad.

Not that it doesnt look good but I would be hesitant on accepting money for possibly making a firearm unsafe for use.
All it takes is one person to send you their slide, you cut the hell out of it, then they shoot it and it fails, or it injures someone.
Hence why legitimate companies have insurance just for such instances.
And if the worst possible situation happens, trying to win in court with no proof that you did any research on the stress points of the slide other than "what looks really cool" is going to sink you.

Looks great, I love innovation. I too would be concerned about the functionality and strength of the slide, which are valid points, but if you test it for several thousands rounds and perhaps have some rigidity tests and measures run on it to ensure safety, and if it's not giving problems, why not? It looks great, more power to you.

Since the bare metal is now exposed, would it be more prone to corrosion?

Here's a pic on an OEM Glock 17L Slide. Does the slide look "compromised"?

From what I understand, the slide is carbon steel and has the tenifer treatment done on it which gives the steel good surface hardness. I think it is a safe guess that the milling has also removed the surface hardness at those v shaped cuts, which means the stress already concentrated there will affect the material that much more.

We've all seen the slow-mo barrel whip videos; do the vibrations during cycling match a structural mode (or it's 2nd, 3rd, etc)? I can only hope that the OP will do his due diligence on NASTRAN for the safety of all around him.

I think it is safe to assume Glock had done extensive structural analysis before making those cuts. Did the OP?

Also notice how the OEM lightning cut never breached the slide side and the edges are at the curved part between the top and side of the slide? That is to ensure a high second moment of area. The corners are also very radius-ed. Compare that against OP's cut.

Mechanics of materials is a long time ago in my hazy undergrad days, but I still remember why we don't have square windows on airplanes.

Can someone refer me to a company that has done work on XD/XDM slides? Most offer glock or m&p slides, can't seem to find one that will help me with my XDM9.
