    Slide not cocking hammer?

I have a single action Phoenix Arms hp22a and am having a problem with the hammer not being cocked when the slide is racked. At first this happened only twice during the first several hundred rounds.. then it didn't happen for a few hundred more rounds, but then the last two mags it happened on every shot. I figured the gun was just dirty, or maybe the ammo was underpowered. So i came home, cleaned the gun thoroughly and cannot cock the hammer at all by racking the slide. I had to manually force the hammer to be fully cocked while the slide was back. Using just my thumb and the hammer cocks everytime. I dont want to send it in for repair if I don't have to. Anyone have experiance with thks kind of problem? Btw the gun is a blast for how small and cheap it was.

Did you clean the sear? There could be some crud on it or something. Like brass shavings or gunk.

No I haven't tried anything but a basic field strip and cleaning. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to specific parts like that. My owner's manual shows the name and location of each part on the gun so i will try cleaning the sear when i get home. This gun was so cheap and won't be used for self defense so I was thinking of trying to do some sort of trigger job myself.

On a side note, when i manually cock the hammer there seems to be a weird resistance in the action, feels like a spongy feeling spring or something it's hard to explain. My cz wasn't like that, but maybe it's just a cheapet gun.

If you field strip it and pull the hammer back the sear lifts upward a little bit. Check to see if the is something in there. [IMG][/IMG]
You maybe able to clean that area without having to do a detail strip.

Spray the frame's internals with brake cleaner and wipe clean. That should dislodge any crud that may have build up over time.

Dave, that is not a shooting gun. You keep it in your pocket or in a sock drawer. When the need comes you have something better than a rock. JMHO, be safe my friend.

So i field stripped then clean under the sear. The gun looks pretty clean overall and only has about 500 rounds through it. I didn't see any crud or debris under the sear but did my best to clean the area anyway. The problem is still there and looks like I'll find out just how good Phoenix Arms customer service is.

From previous comments I've read, I heard their CS is very good. The problem is, (for me anyway) getting in touch with them. I've tried calling them in the past, how to go about sending my slide for some parts replacement (lost the firing pin safety). But Ive given up after several failed attemps.

Let us know how or if you succeed talking to them. Or if they will be paying for shipping the gun to and from.

Brake cleaner will eat some polymers... Wouldn't do that.

Except for the grip, HP22 has no other plastic parts, so GTG with brake cleaners.

Update. I was able to take to somebody at Phoenix today, sent the slide back via regular mail, to get a new firing pin safety. They wouldn't ship the parts and let me do it.
