Need recommendation for new handgun.

I'm thinking about buying a new pistol and was wondering what you guys have or had that you would recommend. I'm open to all calibers but would like it to have a good fit and finish. Price would need to be around $1000 or less.
This is what I currently have:
Glock 20 10mm
Glock 36 45acp
Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec 45acp

This is what I looked at so far:
Walther P99 QA 9mm
Springfield XD45 and XD9
S&W M&P 40
Beretta PX4 Storm w/new 5" barrel

I was going to post a new thread, buuuut....I just got a brand new sig 226 !! I love it. I've got 500 rounds through it already and its awesome. I would highly recommend it . Everyone needs a sig .

that 226 with the hogue (slip on) grip is awesome.

HK's are made of plastic and more expensive. Both are asome and world renound Hk looks more tacticle because they created the modern SWAT image. The XD45 is super nice, I love mine. Get the one you want or you will never be satisfyed.

Well the 226 is a metal frame where the USP is plastic, the USP may be slightly lighter but there is more felt recoil. Both are reliable but the USP will cost you more. The sig is the way to go, the 229 is just a little smaller than the 226. You won't be dissapointed with either Sig though.

Aren't the Sigs priced right in line with HK [ ie somewhere in the neighborhood of 800.00-850.00] ? I've ALWAYS loved the Sig P226, but now there seems to be more competition for that style of pistol. FYI I'm in the market for a new handgun as well and can't decide between .40 and .45.... help !

I paid around 720 for my new 226. What do you mean more competition for that style of pistol? What are you going to be using this for? Defense? IPSC? Just shooting paper?

By 'style' I only meant from a 'tactical' appearance standpoint -LE, G'vt Agency,Military etc- in the broadest and most general sense.
For me the choice between .40 and .45 is tough because I like both rounds a lot, from a casual shooting perspective and defense round. Recoil doesn't bother me at all, in fact I like it in those two calibers. Priamary usage is steel plate and informal plinkage with a defense role important but secondary.
In a personal defense role does one caliber- .40 vs .45- REALLY edge the other out from a real-world performance standpoint ? I doubt it, despite what ballistic gelatin may indicate.
If the SIG P229 in .40 [ or P220 in .45 ?] can be had for less than a comparable USP that might make the difference for me....

You mentioned a 10MM and a 1911. You also have a budget of a $1000. How about a Kimber Custom Eclipse 10MM. A new one will run under $950. I think the fit and finish of it will be superior to both the Glocks and the Mil-Spec. The Eclipse has Kimber's match trigger, Mepro night sights, front strap checkering and an attractive two-tone finish.

Among a brace of other more costly 1911s in my collection the Kimber compares quite well, especially in the value department. I'm even considering having it listed on my carry permit. This is meaningful in that I'm allowed to list only three guns on my permit and I only like to make changes to the three selected every two years when it is time to renew the permit. So, as you can imagine, a great deal of thought has gone into choosing which three.

another vote for the Sig P series pistols, just picked up my third. Absolutely love them. Everyone that I let shoot mine absolutely love em.

HK P2000? ive had mine for a few months and put over 3k rounds through it, not one issue fired every single round. fit is awesome and has interchangeable backstraps like the Walther.

or wait for the HK45..

I was at the gun store this morning and the salesperson at the counter showed it to me and said "we just got this in, it's new with a 5 inch barrel". I couldn't find it on Beretta's website when I got home so I just took his word for it since I did have it in my hands.

Well I think you collection could use a 9mm and a .22 cal.

A 9mm Springfield Loaded 1911 would be cool. XD-9 is a nice gun that I love to shoot. A fun .22 is a Walther P22 (made 05 and up). A Walther P99 would also be a nice choice. I was checking out the M&P yesterday and thought that was a nice looking piece. This one was a .40 but I would prefer a 9mm.

Note: These are models that interest me. The only guns I have experiance with is the P22 and XD-9. I had no issues to date with either one.
