    1911 Break-in, shooting low

So I just picked up a brand new SA loaded combat. I just took it to the range today. Not too bad, I think maybe the first couple of shots are dead on but then it just starts shooting low. Now I know its been a while since I've been to the range. But I also took my Sig 2022 and I shoot fine with it. Now is this just something that will get better after I put a few more hundred rounds through it? Or is it me?

Also I'm really not too fond of the trigger. The hole for the trigger adjustment seems a bit sharp. Is it just me?

It sounds like you're anticipating recoil and forcing the nose of the gun down. Could that be it?

      Flinching and fighting the recoil.

Try to put it on a rest to see if you have issues still. If you are still shooting low from a rest, send it back to Springfield, they'll make it right for you. Could be a high front sight issue.

They call it the 1911 Honeymoon. After you get accustomed to the recoil, you
will be just fine. Try aslo not to grip the pistol too much.

Practice and a few hundred rounds should do the trick.

Exactly what it is. It starts shooting lower as you start to know where the trigger is going to break. Work on flinch control. Slowly squeeze the trigger. Give it a very slow squeez, 15-20 seconds before it breaks the shot. Sounds easier than it is but it works. Also when you go back to the range, offer the gun to a shooter that has a one hole target and let him or her shoot it. I think you will be surprised. The adjustment screw hole can be taken care of by some 600g sandpaper and a few seconds of rubbing. Good luck, Sammy

Funny, I just made a reference today on SIGforum about SA Loadeds sometimes shooting low from the factory. Have someone else try it out, if it shoots low for them too have Springfield install a new front sight.

My girlfriend had the same problem with her 1911. We got some .45acp snap caps and I had her dry fire a couple times in the bedroom. Sure enough, every time she fired she instinctively jammed the nose down on the gun. Even with snap caps, this behavior will be evident because it becomes an automatic muscle response.

Overcome that, and you'll be shooting in the bull again. It worked for my GF.

I was thinking about have one of the guys at the range take a few shots. But I was blaming the break-in. But its possible its me since its been a couple months since I last went shooting. I'll have to focus on trigger control next time I head over.

Have someone load a mag for you and add a couple of snap caps to the mix in a random fashion. Then have them watch you while you shoot. A flinch will really stand out when you try to fire the snap caps.

Have somebody that can shoot shoot the gun and verify zero.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

A good way to check is to mix in snap caps with live ammo at the range and watch what your gun does when you get to those.
