    Need A S&W or Ruger .357

My girlfriend's B-day is coming up and she's expressed an interest in having a gun around the house for when I'm out of town. Plus, I took her shooting a few months back and she had a blast... (terrible Pun. Sorry guys)

She really would be fine with a .38 Special but I figured that I would get a .357, in case she got to feeling that the .38s were a little too "anemic"...

I'd prefer stainless steel but if there's a good deal on a blued one, I could always plate it with electroless nickel nickel later. I think a S&W "K" frame would fit her hand well. When we went shooting, she shot a Ruger SP101 and it fit her hand perfectly, so I figure that would be a "rough" equivalent to a "K" frame S&W.

Anyone know of any deals out there?

K frames are harder to come by these days as I don't believe they are making new ones. I'd recommend one of the L frames like the 686(+) with a 4" barrel.

I know it might ruin the surprise, but taking her to the store and letting her find the one that fits her hand the best would be a good idea.

She's hard to shop for, so she already knows that I'm looking at a pistol for her...

Really, she liked the SP101. It fit her hand just fine. Maybe I'll just get her one of those. The only drawback is that I know S&W has some higher capacity revolvers.

Depending on where you are, I believe DesertRacer still has a pre-lock M19 2.5" for sale in Socal.

Don't overlook the older ruger Six series

Security/Service/Speed sixes are high quality revolvers that can be picked up for less than comparable smiths.

I would go with something like this. Yes, I believe it is on the list.

One guy walks over to the black rifle area and starts gazing. An employee asked him if he knew what he wanted. The guy answered "Not sure......definitely something black.............and short...............and tactical."

If I could make a suggestion...don't overthink this! Get her something SHE likes, is comfortable shooting, and will use. All the stuff I heard you saying you were looking for were the things you wanted, unless I missed something. If I misread, or overthought, I apologize, but do step back and allow her to choose if at all possible. Just me and my experience talking, nothing like buying a $40k boat for her (ummm, I mean me), and hearing, "Why don't you use it, I'm not that interested." Education is expensive! LOL

Rugers are nice. I love my GP-100.

An excellent recommendation. Don't overlook these bargains!

Let her fondle a number of guns so you can get a good idea of what it is that she likes. I wouldn't hesitate to let her try out some autos like the Beretta 92 either.

If she liked the SP101.....get it.

Feed the interest that she has......you are lucky to have a woman that is interested whatsoever.

she likes the sp101, get the sp101.

however, i'm old school and female: i believe its nice of you to want to pay for it and do some leg work re research. but eventually this is her gun to own and care for, right? i'd encourage you to take her to the range and shoot more rental guns. i'd encourage you to give her some websites to look at re info on different guns. i'd encourage you to encourage her to be more active in this process.
