    229/228 conversion 40-9mm on the cheapo :)

    Per title,

Bored waiting for the stupid pistol so i ordered this 228 slide from eflay. Aside from being used, overall nice slide. Seller sent it to cali in two days! WOW talk about customer service. Barrel is pretty decent too. Turned off the lights and the night sites still work, dim, but still working. Slide is made in germany and i also got the full parts kit to convert the 229 into a franken229-228. Loaded some 9mm in the .40 mags and it seems to load/unload fine.
O boy cant wait. This is going to be fun.

Nice. Seems like a cheaper route than a Bar stol barrel. Are the slides the same thickness? Let us know how it shoots op

      You'd have a problem if the slide of a .40 229 was the same as a 228.

The slide of a 9mm 229 is the same as that of the 228, but the .40 and 357SIG 229 slides have different dimensions from that of the 9mm ones

i will know by the end of the week I am hoping she will fit. The seller assured me it should work. I ran the serial numbers, and crossing fingers it works.
I dont have the .40 slide with me (nor the pistol) but now your making me nervous..

The original 229s had two different sized frames one for the .40/357Sig and the other for the 9mm model. The the mags of the .40/357SIG won't fit in a 9mm 229 frame.

The 9mm version was the same as the 228, just with a milled slide. that is how SIG was able to produce a limited run of 228R a while back when they found some extra 228 slides

The new 229-1 uses the same frame for all three chamberings...the larger .40/357SIG frame

bunch of 2014 threads talking about running a P228 slide on the P229 40 cal frame including the P229R. Just need to switch the P228 Locking Block on the P229 frame. Think OP might have good results.

Op, I hope it's awesome! I got a Stormlake black ss 23-9 conv. barrel for my G23. I shoot it all the time, I love it. Follow up & let us know how it's going. If it's money, you'll be super stoked.

And then its a 357 sig barrel. Three calibers, same pistol. Wow and then the 239 will get the same treatment. Why arent all semi autos like this? Swap barrel or slide, new caliber? WOOHOO
