Bullet separated from casing! (Sig)

Hi there. So tonight while admiring my new Sig I noticed some odd rattling. So I removed the loaded magazine to find the 1st bullet of 10 had actually fallen apart from the casing and in turn dumping powder inside my pistol and possibly the magazine. Now I have cleaned the gun powder from inside the pistol to the best of my ability but my concern is - what will happen if I fire my gun with residual gun powder lying inside? Also being a CA compliant magazine there is the possibility of gun powder being in there too. Any suggestions? Thanks

You know, while writing this up I was going to mention that I am in fact a big boy and am well aware of gun safety while handling my home defense weapon. But I didn't want to come off as a douche so I left it out. But thank you for your concern. Also I'm sorry for posting in the wrong category.

If you got most of the powder out I wouldn't worry too much. I don't own a sig, can you take the baseplate off the magazine?

Yeah I'm pretty new to calguns so I'm still picking it up.
But I got what I can see out of the pistol. But the magazine is CA compliant which I do not believe can be taken apart.

Dang OP, that sucks. Not to be a jerk but are those Winchester bulk white box? Waaaaay back when I bought a box and being nosy I look over the rounds, found 8 rounds, not fully seated, or cock eyed in the brass. Contacted Winchester to let them know, they offered a replacement box, I said no thanks, heard that others had seen the same. No more WWB for me.

Hate to think what woulda happened if you had to use that gun in self defense with that funky round.

As for getting out the powder, try compressed air.

Do you have a air compressor? If not, maybe one of those small cans of compressed air that PC techs use.

But to answer the question, nothing much would have happened with that amount of powder in the gun or magazine, even if there was a way for it to burn.

A quick question; did you chambered the same round more than once? Bullet set back (and a loose bullet) can occur when the same round is chambered, not fired, extracted from the chamber and then reloaded at the top of the magazine and then chambered again.

I never reload an extracted round at the top spot on the magazine. While I believe it is ok to use a round that has been previously chambered, I always put in further down in the magazine, to avoid the possibility of bullet set back.

As far as residual powder is concerned, clean it as good as you can (I like the canned air idea) and enjoy it.
