    New project 1911

I just picked up my first 1911! It is a Rock Island Armory usgi style. What I'm trying to do with it is build it as similar as possible to a usgi 1911a1. My dad has a Remington Rand that he carried in the army and I love it, it also give me a reference point.

The idea behind building this is that I'm trying to build something close to the usgi look on a budget that I can take out to the desert and plink without taking a real 2k+ dollar gun that has sentimental and historical value.

I'm looking for any tips or suggestions from you 1911 experts out there, also looking for any necessary parts, so if you guys have anything rolling around in your toolbox that you want to part with at a fair price or point me in the right direction I'm interested. I am trying to stay as USGI looking as possible but USGI or USGI reproduction is cool.

So far I know I need grips, possibly grip screws and a curved main spring housing that has a lanyard loop.

    Thanks!

I got my Rock 1911 GI for Christmas 2011. I was going for the USGI look too and most casual lookers do not noticed grips or the lack of the arched main spring housing with lanyard loop.

If you search here or on the 1911 Forum, several people have done exactly what you are talking about. Have fun and enjoy that 1911
