XD40 Sub Conversion Barrel

Just picked up my first XD. It's a 3" sub in 40s&w. I am interested in a conversion barrel, but Barsto, Efk and Storm Lake, do not have one for a sub.
I see EFK has a 5", and was considering cutting it and recrowning. I am not a gunsmith, but have lots of time behind tool and die machines, not that difficult to cut and lap a barrel.
Anyone use a conversion on a 3". I have thousands of 9mm reload materials, so that's why the 9mm barrel.
Any thoughts?

If the plan is just use up a 9mm stash, I would just rent.

If you really want to chop a barrel, let me know.->Will check if my tactical barrel fits in a sub-compact.
