    Utah Carry permits

    Hey Gang,

I have been seeing this around. What good are these carry classes/permits good for if you live in California? I've been thinking about doing myself, What other states are they good in? I think there were 10 states or something like that. If there is more to this please fill me in.

    Hey SoCal,

I attended the class by Matt P. and it was a great way to learn about
ccw. We travel to Nevada (Reno and Lake Tahoe) alot and I figured it would be nice to legally carry and be safe in places that we were visiting. I attached a link to the class that I attended. Check out the first post and it should answer your questions. I am going to apply for ccw in my county and then cross my fingers. But if it doesnt happen for me, we go to Nevada enough throughout the year that I guess I can get my fix of carrying concealed that way. My wife and I were actually caught between a wall and a bank of snow (along the strip) in Lake Tahoe last year. We were walking behind a group of youngsters who started to fight eachother. We stepped back and took cover in a snowbank against the wall of a parking structure. I saw one of the punks pull out a handgun. I thought SHTF! Duck and cover. I could see the slide moving but heard no bang. I then figured that it was an Airsoft- as it made the distinct sounds of gas (c02) discharges. Make the story short- about 10 guys all throwing fists and some shooting bb's and me and the wife caught where all we could do was stay put. All in all, the idiot was just spraying the group, muzzle sweeps past us a few times. You get the picture. CCW in that situation would have made it better for us to have a fighting chance- if needed.

So thats my reason for doing it. Just ask yourself, will you be traveling to the state(s) the Utah permit is good for? And if so, do you want to be protected. All that for $90 bucks! And plus the fee from Utah of $62 and your good to go.

    Hope that helped.

      Utah permit is useful

I've had a Utah nonresident permit for 7 years, and can carry in the following 28 states on that permit. Since I regularly travel by car to Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, it has been very useful to me.

      1. Alabama
      2. Alaska
      3. Arizona
      4. Arkansas
      5. Delaware
      6. Georgia
      7. Idaho
      8. Indiana
      9. Kentucky
      10. Louisiana
      11. Minnesota
      12. Mississippi
      13. Missouri
      14. Montana
      15. Nevada
      16. New Mexico
      17. North Carolina
      18. North Dakota
      19. Ohio
      20. Oklahoma
      21. South Dakota
      22. Tennessee
      23. Texas
      24. Utah
      25. Vermont
      26. Virginia
      27. Washington
      28. Wyoming

The fact that the very idea of a citizen with a CCW pisses off the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein and their cronies is good enough for me. I hold Utah, Nevada and Florida CCWs.

I'm in Missouri and do not have a resident MO permit. Mine is from Utah and covers more states and keeps me off any listing in my home state.

I have one; it compliements my CA permit nicely. I go to Vegas a fair amount and I don't need to worry about carrying my gun in a locked container until I get to Stateline. UT CCW also covers WA and I have family there, so

If I remember right, some (all?) states that will issue a CCW won't accept a resident using a foreign non-resident permit. In other words, Missouri may not honor a Utah Non-resident permit for a Missouri resident.

I'm almost certain I read that about Nevada and Arizona, so I would check that out for your home state, just to make sure you're covered. Better to be safe than in trouble.

This is true, double check to make sure you are not breaking your local laws.

From everything I've read Nevada and Arizona accept Utah non-resident CCW's. I think Kansas and Colorado don't but honor it for residents.

That is certainly the case for Colorado. Even though the Utah CCW map shows that Colorado has a formal reciprocal CCW agreement with Utah, it is only for UT resident permits and the UT non resident permits aren't valid in CO.

Being a CA resident, the UT permit is useful for me since I often take trips to NV, AZ and I go through UT on the way to CO. The way I see it, I'd rather be legal in some states than none at all... and just having it while living in such a anti CCW County (Contra Costa) feels like a small moral victory unto itself.

Gun specific no. You don't need to register your arms with a UT permit. There should be one in your local area, contact the local gun shop.

LAX Guns offers a UT CCW class. Never actually been there, but they're close to me and I'm thinking about taking the class myself.
