I've head similar stories! A friend of mine had one decades ago...he handloaded some pretty warm loads for it.

Small, cheap, and packs a punch in .44.

            They are well made.

Cheap isn't a word Id use to describe .44 special ammo.

I was talking about the price of the pistol, as compared to something like a Smith, not the ammo.

I believe I have read that Charter Arms has had some good years and years where quality control was not where it should have been. That maybe why you sometimes hear that they are absolute junk.

and as mentioned above you should definitely figure in the cost of the cost of ammunition, because after just 10 boxes or so you'll be paying as much as you bought a Smith and Wesson or Ruger 38 special, which is what I would recommend for a short barrel revolver.

and if it's just an unique look of the tiger stripes then you can have that done any pistol or even do it yourself.

I had one, liked it a lot and had it on my carry permit until it totally shat the bed on me in a re-qual shoot. Just up and went haywire. I thought about getting another but in the display case there was a Ruger SR40c that was only $30 more. I got the Ruger and it is a big improvement. Charter warranty is crap, they won't fix diddly. Ruger is lifetime, no questions asked. No brainer when it comes down to it.

Tell me more about the shatting of the bed please. I read that they now have a lifetime warranty.

I understand, but its an aspect that buyers should be aware of. My dad bought one and was happy with how cheap it was. I was amazed at the quality for the price.

                          Until he bought ammo.

                          Just a friendly heads up.

The ammo isnt much of a problem, I have a 50 Beowulf so Im used to paying $2 a shot

I had a blue steel one years ago. I carried it as an off duty gun for a while.
Back then about the only factory ammo you could get was 246 grain lead round nose.
If I were to have/carry one now, I would look at the cowboy load 200 grain
semi-wad cutter or flat point ammo. I would not want to get hit with one of them going @700 ft. per second. Federal also makes a 200 grain lead hollow-point semi-wad cutter, but it is sometimes hard to find.
