Took my brand new P22 out to the range the other night... and I had a few problems with it. Out of 400 rounds, I had about 10 FTF's and one FTE. The FTF's were caused by the empty shell not ejecting all the way and jamming up in the slide while the gun tried to load a new round. Is this normal for a P22? I Thought it'd be a super reliable gun when I bought it....

P22 Issues...
sigpicLord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

were you using reloads? -
I get that every so often. I tried changing my ammo and it helped a lot. I use CCI stinger now and it rarely happens. Has a lot more punch too...
Were you using Remington?"You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can't wipe your friends on the couch"Comment

try more ammo
Mine is 100% with a few cheapy brands, ftf every round with others. It is a fun, reliable gun with ammo it likes. Wear a hat because the ejection pattern is quite random and will include straight back at you.Comment

I almost bought a P22 couple of years ago - until I found out the Cali ones are neutered. Here's a summary of what I found when I Googled Walther P22 back in the day:
1. Get a pistol serial number beginning with N or later
2. Get a magazines with serial ending with A
3. Use hot rounds like CCI Stingers
All of the above info is explained in more detail here:

Amen to that. With the above, I have had great luck (Stingers are FUN too!).Originally posted by Left Coast DJI almost bought a P22 couple of years ago - until I found out the Cali ones are neutered. Here's a summary of what I found when I Googled Walther P22 back in the day:

No problems at all.
Using the 8.00 per 500 round generic ammo I had a few FTF failures because of the slide not coming all of the way back. I would guess 1 in 60.Originally posted by ViPER395Surrender yourself and your vessel..........Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.

Did you give the gun a good cleaning and lube job when you got it out of the box? I made the same mistake with mine. Took it right out and started shooting it. I took it home, broke it down and gave it a good cleaning. No problems since. Have probably put 3000 rounds throught it since.Comment

i agree with the above list but i think the most important one on the list is the one about the magazines. i was lucky enough to get the Suffix A mags and my gun performs 100% with them with any ammo but if i use the regular magazines (no suffix A), i would have a FTF about once every 10 rounds

The P22 is ammo picky. If you are going to use bulk ammo the Remington Golden Bullet works well. CCI Mini Mag works really well also. What is the date code on the gun? It is on the barrel and starts with an Ax. I have an AF date code which was made in 05 and it functions flawless. Here is a link for more info on the P22's.

The bugs can be worked out and once they are the gun is a very fun shooter. You can send it to S&W and they will fix it usually for free even if you are not the original owner. Also remember to use a dry lube with these pistols.Comment

Bought my P22 a year ago, and it has run about 500 rounds of CCI Blazer through it with no problems at all. Which is great, because Turners has internet specials once in a while for $8 a brick of CCI. I had to try Remington High Velocity 22 "Game Loads" once because this one indoor range wouldn't allow your own 22 ammo, and forced you to buy this stuff. It fed and extracted horribly. Jam-o-matic. The stuff even jammed in my G22. These pistols are definately ammo sensitive. Find what works and stick to it, and keep it clean.sigpic
