SA RO 1911 9mm: Failure to Feed - Need Help

Happy New Years All! So I'm having FTF issues on my new SA RO 1911 9mm; well at least I think it's an FTF when the slide does NOT completely cycle the next round. With a little push from the rear of the slide, the load finally seats into the chamber to complete the cycle. This usually happens on the first 3 rounds and then the rest of the 7 rounds cycles just fine. Initially, I thought it was a break-in thing but after 500 rounds, I'm still getting these FTF's. I use 10 round Trip Research mags, and they work just fine on my SA LT 1911 9mm, which is basically the same gun, so that eliminates a magazine issue. I've heard Springfield CS is excellent and so that is my next plan, but before placing the call, I'm hoping a fellow calgunner can offer some "do it yourself" advice if this is a simple fix. Thanks all in advance.

Check the feed ramp for burrs or anything out of the ordinary. It might also be your extractor needs adjustment.

How does the magazine that came with the firearm work?

Polish the feed ramp. Flitz or Mother's mag polish with a bullet shape felt tip on your Dremel.

Thanks. The ramp looks fine and polished nicely and I've never adjusted an extractor. Is something easy to do?

The FTF's also occur on the OEM 9 round mags.

Remove the slide and try to push an empty brass up the breach , it shouldn't be too hard. If you have to force the brass then the extractor is too tight.
On youtube there is a video on how to adj.

Mine does the same thing roughly 10% of the time. Haven't really taken the time to figure it out. Less than 200 rounds shot. FT Feed occurs randomly or I haven't noticed it occurring in the first 3 rounds of the mag. Occurs on all 4 of the original Springfield magazines.

How heavy is the rounds that you are using? 115gr or 124gr, if 115gr then I would try 124gr and see if that works.

This ^^^ is what I was thinking. Try a stronger recoil spring.

Can you hand cycle the rounds without the failures to go back into battery?

This is a super easy fix ... call Springfield! They will send you a prepaid shipping label, fix the problems, then ship it back to you for free. Their customer service is great and they might even throw in a few extra services for your trouble.

The gun has a problem. You might fix it by replacing springs or changing various parts, but you are only treating the symptoms, not the cause of the problem.

Thanks both. With SA's excellent CS reputation, I mind as well experience it first hand. I'll be calling them tomorrow.

I have one also and was experiencing the same issues. What kind of ammo are you using? Factory or reloads? I was shooting my 115 gr loads that barely make minor so i had to adjust my recoil spring to the load. Factory ammo was no issue. Of course i also took off the ils and went with a standard mainspring and housing. (s&s)
