SP2022 9mm issues finally resolved (long)
Finally figured out and fixed my SP2022 9mm issues.
Here is a quote from my original range report when I first bought the gun.
After the first outing, I thought all was well.
I took the gun to the range again and I was having an issue with the round not going into full battery. It would hang up about 1/8" out of battery. A quick tap on the rear of the slide and you could fire it.
At that point I reached out for help again on various web forums and all indications pointed in the direction of my cleaning/lubing of the gun.
I was given a guide via email by a Sig gunsmith on proper use of TW25B, and I followed directions to the letter. I also polished the feed ramp as I heard that could cause the round to hang up. Range trip, still not going into full battery.
I thought I somehow did something wrong and was about ready to send it to Sig to see if they could figure it out.
I field stripped the gun to do one last cleaning/lube and inspection when I noticed something I never saw before (never thought to look for). The Poly guide rod had gouges in one side of it from the buffer spring. Rolling the guide rod on my work bench I could see a very slight curve to it.
I decided to try one last thing before sending it to Sig, I ordered a SS guide rod for it. Immediately on installation the gun cycled much smoother than with the OEM guide rod. I even installed each a few times and compared to make sure it really did feel smoother.
I did countless hours of internet research and I could not find anyone who has had this issue. The notion of a bad Poly guide rod got me a lot of flack from people on other forums.
Finally, after about 6 months of waiting to go to the range (thanks fire season), I was able to try the gun out yesterday. I fired 200rds both federal factory and Brass Maxx without a single issue.
I'm very happy to have finally resolved this issue. Now I can enjoy my gun like the rest of the Sp2022 owners. Now I just need to work on my grouping @ 15 yards.
