A rollpin punch would work better but, it can be done with a flat punch.

Lol. Everyone always thinks every pin mentioned is the trigger pin.

You can still use a flat punch on that guy. I drove it in with a jewelers hammer almost all the way, then flat punches the rest of the way. Roll pin punch would work, but I don't see an immediate benefit or need to spend more money if you don't have one. I used flat punches on the entire gun as well as every other gun. Haven't bought roll pin punches yet.

A tip when re-installing this - put the everything back together, lower the hammer onto the firing pin. This will hold everything in place while you use a hard non marring mallet to get the pin started. I have used a flat punch to finish punching it in, however I highly suggest using a roll pin punch. It's just easier, and the risk of marking up your slide or damaging the face of the pin is minimal with a roll pin punch.

                    Some suggestions on tools:

Roll pin punch set (careful with the 1/16 punch)

A flat punch is fine. I have found tapping the pin in slowly can save the pin from some of the damage.

I second what jinn707 said about the non marring hammer.

jinn707: love the tip on lowering the hammer. that will definitely help out a bunch! thanks for the roll pin set..

Update: thanks jinn707 for the tip on lowering the hammer worked perfectly.. was afraid to give it a good pounding for the pin back in, but went through with it and now it's all done. DA/SA is so much lighter compared to OEM springs. don't have a gauge.. but definitely so much easier now. can't wait to polish it up internally to smooth out the action.
