HELP! Need help reassembling a Sig 220

My girlfriends dad just recently came across a Sig p220 and dissassembled it. Now we can't figure out how to put the slide back. The barrel seems to hit and prevents the slide from going back all the way. I pretty new to guns and would really appreciate any advice.

Locking insert isn't installed correctly (usually because of a turned trigger pivot pin) OR the giude rod isn't in it's proper little spot. Did you take the locking insert out?

Disassemble the pistol again. Turn the slide upside down and put the barrel in place, making sure that the lugs are pointing upward. Compress the recoil spring and make sure the guide rod is inserted correctly. On the frame, make sure that the disassembly lever is still turned 90 degrees downward and that the magazine is out. That's about all there is to it.

if the locking block insert wasn't installed correctly you'd never be able to get the takedown lever in.. Most people don't know how to get that far so I'm going to assume he's most people..

That said, DON'T FORCE ANYTHING. Putting the gun back should be smooth and easy. If you have to force anything, you're doing it wrong and need to diagnose what the issue is before you damage the gun.

Ask your GF's dad how far he took it apart.. If it was just the taking the slide off the frame, then in all likelihood he's got the recoil rod on the wrong part of the barrel or the take down lever isn't turned and pointed down..

Beyond that, the gun should go together quite easily.. Youtube is your friend or have some patience and take it into a LGS..
