    Ameriglo CAP vs Hackathorn Sights

Looking to pick up a set of sights for my g17. This is my first pistol so I have no experience with aftermarket sights but I have narrowed it down to these two.

Can anyone give me some pros and cons? I am slightly leaning towards the CAP's because I like the idea of the front being square as opposed to round.

    Thank you in advance.

Ps this is my "do-it-all" gun. SD/HD/Range

Of those two, I'd get the Hacks. Not a fan of the cap, I have the hacks on a Gen 4 17, not my favorite but a good combat/speed sight.
I am partial to a u-shaped rear and really like the Trijicon HD's, have them on a couple of my carry guns(23&19).
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

Hackathorns are great, I wish I could get them on a CZ.

Love the Hacks. It is the only one I use now.

I like the Hack front with 10-8 rear, runner up is the Trijicon HD.

I used Ameriglo Proglo fronts with yellow rears on everything. I recently had Trijicon HDs put on my G42. Now I really need to get HDs put on everything. The front site is much better as the colored ring and tritium lamp is coated in an epoxy like substance that allows the front site to be cleaned and thus pop (visually pick up faster and easier) as though new. It seems like I can't keep the Pro glo front clean and so the colored ring doesn't pop as well.

I have read that these sights are good for speed/close range combat. How much does that take away from accuracy? Are they still decent for the range?

I am in the same boat as OP, But I am thinking of getting the T-Caps or Hacks for my new Glock 19. The T-cap front sight is thinner for more accuracy.

Check out this video about T-caps

I ran the Hacks on a Gen and a G23 for over a year. Pretty good sights imo. However changed the G 19 to Trijicon HD. My acquisition is faster and I do like the "U" shape rear sight. The only thing I will consider with a G17 is that the Hacks sit pretty low IMO perfect for Compact models

I just put the trijicon HD's on my PPS, haven't shot it yet but the look really nice and I think I'm going to love the sight picture with the u-notch. Annoyingly they did not come with the set screw they were supposed to though.

OP have you looked into trueglow TFX sights? They are supposed to be like the TFO's only now they are completely sealed.

I'm not nocking anything cause I'm new to this but I don't really like the idea of a U rear or the 3 dot system.

The Tcap could also be a possibility.

I have read that the CAPs you actually point the tritium front sight at where you want it to hit, as opposed to using the top of the sights when they aline (hope that makes sense) is that true for the hacks as well. Or any sights for that matter ?

That's how the sights are for all my guns, but I wish I would hold the top of the front sight where I want to hit instead. Sight picture 3 sucks at longer ranges when you have to cover up the target, but for defensive situations it probably does not matter much.

What I mean is that I would prefer Sight image 2, but all my guns are sight image 3, Makes shooting bulls-eye at long ranges more difficult. If getting night sights though, then they do have the advantage to using them the same way in the daytime as night.

Trijicon HD's are not exactly a 3 dot system, not for daytime anyways, the rear dots are really only visable in low light, basically its a black rear right in the day where you use the U shaped notch to help center the bright front sight. The front sight is some sort of glow int he dark luminescent paint that really catches the light, not quite like a fiber optic but still very visible.

I'm undecided on my straight-8 sights still as to ether I like them more or not. I do find I like the blanked out rear with a bright front dot though. With the HD's you can easily rack the slide on your belt one handed, if that is a concern.

                          HD's on a glock,

Maybe you would prefer more the ameriglow style, I think it's kinda nice as well, Looks higher profile, so not sure if that will affect POA. (* Are these only available for S&W? Drats!)

TCAPs are not bad, but at night they might be harder to use in low light. Give them a try if you want. Looking into this the TCAP is the one where you use sight picture 3. You will have to really just try them to see if you like them. Unfortunately they don't make TCAPs for my Walther PPS so I picked what I thought would be best for that gun.

A good sight, but a little wide for tight shots. I'd love a T-HACK at .125 instead of .140.

I did not like the dash on the rear sight with the CAPs.

Very little reason to be using an XS Big Dot since all these large, bright sights in a traditional notch and post design have come out.
What didn't you like about it, does it draw the focus away from the front sight?
