    I run 45 Super in a Springfield 1911 v10 and Trophy Match. It's a blast.

22lbs Recoil spring, titanium firing pin, and heavy mainspring (don't recall the #)

It's not that you're imposing. It's not bothersome that you haven't done any learning on your own and it shows, it's troubling.

In the case of my G21SF, I run a 22lb RSA, in the case of my 1911's I run a heavier 22lb recoil spring and a heavier main spring. The main spring is the most important as you get the "slow down" power without having to add too much "slam back power" of the heavier recoil spring. In any case, hotter 45 Super is pretty hard on any gun designed for 45 Auto. For the occasional outing with a gun you are not sentimentally attached to, heavier springs are all you need. If you have a $5000 Wilson Combat you plan to keep for life, I would not feed it a steady diet of 45 Super, at least not top end 45 Super (anything above 1000fps for a 230gr slug).

Aftermarket barrels can add value in some ways. Typically with hotter handgun ammo, the longer the barrel, the more a round will shine. This is definitely true with 10mm and 45 Super, etc. The magnum style (slower) powders used work far better when the barrel is longer. I have seen more than 100fps difference in the exact same load comparing my stock length G21barrel, versus a 6" hunting barrel. Aftermarket barrels also tend to have a little tighter chamber than say a stock Glock chamber (less the case with many 1911's). The tighter chamber will yield a few more turns on your brass life if you are reloading.

The argument for "more chamber support" is valid if you are loading in the twilight zone (way above SAAMI pressures). An aftermarket barrel with a steeper feed ramp (less incursion into the chamber) will allow slightly more powder charge before you start seeing smiles on your cases (in any case, if you start seeing smiles, you are waaay past SAAMI max pressures or something is not right on your gun).

If you are shooting ammo loaded to SAAMI spec maximums (commercially loaded ammo or reloaded to powder or bullet mfg published maximums), there is no need for an aftermarket barrel in any gun I have ever shot 45 Super.
Thanks, that is more info than I could find anywhere!

I have been planning on upgraded my recoil spring in my USP .45 to handle Super, just haven't gotten around to it. Its identical to a 45 acp but the interior of the case is shaped like a rifle case or a bottle.

This guy consistently got 1150fps from a USP tactical

Lesson number one, if you don't want to shoot your chrony, shoot from a rest and put a target behind the screens, he was lucky he only hit plastic.

The hottest I have run the Supers were just under 1225fps for a 225gr LTC PB lead bullet. This was from a 6" KKM barrel. From my stock G21 barrel, it was 1150fps. This round is very heavy recoil for a semi.

Fired 450 SMC cases out of my Colt have no blown primers or smilies. Primers look better than most 10mms I've fired.

What are you guys using for brass? Dean Grennell was using cut down Detonics .451 magnum to avoid the 45acp brass being too weak. He also used the heavier recoil and trigger springs, and a Clark barrel that had full support of the case head. Then he could safely exceed pressure limits on his 1911.

You can shoot .45 super out of most .45's if you are using a glock it's best to get a fully supported chamber. People like doing this although I'd never recommend it...

Starline .45 Super. The Super pressures are not crazy high (28K psi), way below 40S&W, 9mm, etc.

Can't wait to try this out (added to long list of things I can't wait to try out )

Makes me less upset I didn't score a 10mm in sse. Wouldn't mind trying the 255gr hard casts at 1150 fps. Bow chicka wow wow.
