Calling Sig Experts - Sig p226 9mm - best version?

    Hi All,

I have been kicking around the idea of picking up a Sig P226 in 9mm after I made the mistake of re-trying one on a recent trip.

Now for the question, Sig has changed much on the handgun over the years, long/short extractor, E2 grips, wide/skinny extractor, trigger bar spring, rail/no rail and the list goes on...

Is their any concensus on which version is the most reliable?

Or is this just an engineering mind over-thinking and any version is going to be as good as the next.

Ideally, I would pick-up used if the price is right as dropping $1k seems steep for my budget.

    The best? X-Five

The best for around $1000 used? P226 MK25 or TacOps

Hi Gem, interesting read. Thanks for the post - so you say an original all German 226 - think that is going to be a bear to find

Don't get caught up in the minute changes over the years. It's all paper specs and makes no difference in reality, all of them will work just fine.

The one area that does matter is some of the models have a short reset trigger, others have that and the "short reach trigger." Of course current models on roster have LCI and mag disconnect. (Mag disconnect is a deal breaker for me.)

I hate the short reach trigger, but love the short reset upgrade. Basically, just buy a plain p226 and enjoy a fine weapon. I personally love the aesthetics, very natural point of aim, comfortable grip and controls, and enjoy da/sa.

Shoet reach trigger? This is new to me... Do you know which models carry this? Reset is a go for me but I have big mitts and not sure if I tried one with this short reach trigger or not...

The short reach trigger is thinner with a slight change in curvature, but it pinches my trigger finger sometimes and I don't like it. Here's the difference:

Here's a somewhat helpful inspection guide if you're looking at a used sig: http://grayguns.com/guide-to-sig-sau...ol-inspection/

Personally I'd go mk25 non elite model with e2 grip

9mm. Folded slide with internal extractor.

.40 (in the pic I have a 357 Sig barrel installed) stainless steel slide with what is now called the "legacy" extractor.

I sold my liver during the panic buy just to get the MK25 and it didn't disappoint.

I was told that you can buy a 226 MK25 Navy Seal version for around $800 in Sacramento area. Not sure which gun shop though.

I have a P226 Elite SAO that I absolutely love. It looks awesome and shoots like a dream

Photo isn't as nice as I'd like it to be but here she is.
