Glock 26 Questions

Okay, so I just came back from the range after firing a Px4 Storm .40, M&P9 and Glock 26 Gen 3. Long story short I fired the Glock 26 the best and it felt like an extension of my hand. This pistol will be used for plinking, home defense, ccw and armed security (my employer needs me to get a pistol soon). I am wondering if the following are training issues and had a couple questions too.

1) I loved the size and stippling, but dropping the magazine and hitting the magazine release had to have me adjust my grip so my palm wasn't contacting the magazine extension. I also have short thumbs and could barely reach the magazine release on the M&P9 if that helps put into perspective on how short my thumbs are. Would a Gen 4 G26 or even Gen 4 G19 remedy this or is it more a training issue?

2) For armed security would a Glock 26 be recommended or would something like a G19 be better? I like the compact size, sight picture, accuracy I was getting with PMC 115gr FMJ @7 yards. My groups were within 4in rapid fire with slight magnum flinch.

3) Is the G26 barrel length too short for reliable expansion of Remington Golden Saber or Hornady Critical Defense if I were to use this within a HD or CCW scenario?

4) Would you recommend getting a Gen 3 or Gen 4? New or used?

1. It will be a similar issue for almost every gun and shifting the gun to reach the mag release will become second nature.

2. G19 would be better.

3. No, barrel length is fine and you're only losing a few fps of velocity, wont affect expansion/penetration for any real world significance.

4. Gen 4 if possible, Gen 3 is perfectly fine, and new/used is up to you. Just remember, your life may depend on this, so either way verify the thing works by taking it to the range and firing a bunch of your practice and carry ammo.

G26 is a great gun and fits all those needs, but is kind of small for HD but doable.

As far as ammo in short barrels, see:

Basically, Federal HST 124GR performs best out of short barrels, but Hornady Critical Defense is ok too.

What do you think about the G19? I won't be leaving CA anytime soon so a CCW now doesnt seem to make much sense and the 19 seems relatively easy to conceal based off other forums.

The texture on Gen 4 is most beneficial on the smaller handguns and less important on the compact and full size.

It's probably too late for you to buy a new Gen 4, but don't worry, buy any of the Gen3's with confidence.

I have a gen3 g23 and g26, both are excellent.

The G26 will do what you need it to do. If the grip length is an issue for you, get a G19 mag and a Glock magazine sleeve.

g19 would be better if you could have the 15 round magazines. If you can shoot the g26 as well as the g19, I pick the 26 because it's easier to wear.

I asked because when you said you trained with a 26 and use it for home defense, it didn't sound like someone who is well trained would recommend (a small BUG for HD).
