Having difficulty disassembling Glock 19 mag.Pinching the sides, & using Glock tool

    Hi All,

This G19 mag is a PIA to take apart to upgrade the spring inside. I bought a new mag from my LGS. I'm following the directions online, inserting the glock tool into the floor plate, pinching the sides, then while pulling on the tool and pushing on the plate to slide it off. It isn't working for me. I'm scratching the plastic and I feel I'm going to ruin a brand new mag.

Any tips or am I just an idiot?

EDIT: All right. I had to use a small C-Clamp to compress the sides of the mag until there was a noticeable bow in the body of the mag, then the baseplate slide right off.

    Thanks guys!!

Is it the ten round mag? If it is you need a vice grip for that due to base plate blocker.

I just use a small philips or the Glock Tool whichever I find first. I just push it in the mag hole almost all the way to flip the retaining plate off the spring and force the tool back with good grip on the mag body as well as the tool. Bottom always slides back and pops off - adjust grip to catch the spring with thumb. I don't pinch anything, just muscle it.

Check thread from earlier this month: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1011598

        This is what I do:

Hold it against the edge of a counter, floor plate facing away from you. Take a screw driver and push in the dimple, holding the dimpled insert an inch or so down in the mag, then lever it forward. Pops right off.

I use channel locks. Grips the middle of the mag only if you set them right. I can post a pic if you are desperate.

Ya. There are two notches on the sides. It's difficult on purpose. Going back on is a snap. I use a small screwdriver Lots of vids on youtube
