Print this form out, fee is 19.00 for each hand gun. Application has a place for your HSC number. After the 1st of January you will need the the new card for long guns. Cost for that card will be 35.00 at Big5. I hope this helps.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

It's not $19 per handgun, it's a single fee. Just so you know it took about 3-4 weeks (mailed 11/26 and received confirmation letter dated 12/15).

Oh. And those hi cap mags that the Beretta comes with........those cannot be transferred. Dad can keep them but you can't. Buy some 10 rounders.

By the way, do the OPLAW form before end of year. $19 total fee for all guns, including any long guns dad gives you.

Notice on the form, it's YOU that fills it out and sends it in. They don't ask any info about your dad or his address etc...

          How acquired: GIFT

From whom: family member X ......father.

          Done deal.

          Be well

          Bob.

Merry Christmas, and thanks for all the good answers.

                To summarize:

                - in the 80's, no requirement to register guns when moving here
                - between 2 California residents, parent/child or grandparent/grandchild, the OPLAW form is correct (If one resides out of state, Fedlaw requires using an FFL in the receiving person's state)
                - in the case of inheritance, the guns first are distributed according to a will or probate. Again, for in-CA parents/children/grandparents, OPLAW, otherwise PPT from estate to person inheriting.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
