Need help tip with cleaning barrel bore

    Hi everyone

I just pick up a RIA 2011 Tac yesterday.

I was astonish how much grease was on this gun. It was literally in a bag of grease. I spent the last 3 hours scrubbing as much as I can away. I'm having trouble cleaning the bore. I'm using m-pro7, but copper not coming off. Any tip to remove the copper? Any help is appreciated.

Sweets 762. Use a patch and get the stuff on the patch and run it down the barrel multiple times.

Let it soak for 5 minutes.

Use the same patch you had and run it down the barrel again.

    Wait 5 minutes.

Run dry patches down the barrel until it's dry.

If the copper is still there, repeat this process, but maybe with another new patch of Sweets 762.

When you are satisfied, run a solvent cleaner down the barrel like Hoppes or Ballistol to remove any residual Sweets.

    Done.

Just a reminder, overcleaning the barrel could also be detrimental if not done properly.

Just made an order on amazon. Thanks.
Man I was scrubbing and scrubbing earlier and it wouldn't come off. I hope I didn't harm it too bad.

make sure to do the sweets thing with a clean bore, meaning all carbon fouling is already cleaned out of the barrel.

As they say, more damage I'd done to guns during cleaning vs shooting...

Copper and the solvent will produce a blue green residue on your patches. As long as you get this on your patches, you have copper residue.

Nothing cleans copper as good as Sweets 7.62.

Try this. I use it on my SA Loaded.

Butch's Bore Shine does a great job too.

If it is indeed new, I would just run a couple of patches dampened with Gibbs Brand other penetrating oil (Kroil, etc.), wait a few minutes, run a couple of dry patches down the bore...then go shooting.
