    Hello gents and ladies,

Christmas is here and my birthday is coming up. Typically I get cash from family and I have been thinking about the following pistols. I cant make up my mind so I need some help. I know the Springers and Kimbers have MIM parts and not as hand fitted as the Dan Wesson. So which one would you pick, from experience of course?

    Springfield TRP Black

    Springfield TRP Stainless

    Springfield Trophy Match Stainless

    Kimber Raptor II Black

If you can pull it off, I would get something that is not on the roster via SSE if there is anything available. You can choose froma a wide variety of 1911's that are on the roster next year.

Well, let's look at things this way.....

The Kimber's will be on "the list" for forever and a day. Same as the Springer's (not sure, but probably). If you can pull off a SSE of the Vbob in the next week, that's the way I'd go.

I have a Kimber CDP, a DW Cbob and a Les Baer Monolith HW. The Kimber is pretty and functional, the DW is great looking and durable and the LB is just plain SEXY and AWESOME.

OBTW, Kentucky Gun Co. has SS Vbob's for $1577, but it'll take them about a week to get it shipped. Sorry for the tease

Also, regarding MIM. This argument has gone on for so long it's worthless in my opinion. Anything man made, ANYTHING, is prone to failure. Doesn't matter if it's cast, forged or MIM. Yes, early MIM parts were prone to failure, so were cast and forged parts way back in the day.

If you think forged parts aren't prone to failure, go ask any NHRA top fuel racer if they've never had problems with forged cranks, pistons, blocks, etc. Again, if it's gonna break, it doesn't matter how it was made.

I've broken my share of non-mim parts on 1911s so I wouldnt let mim be a factor.

All the choices listed are great, go find some Calgunners to see if you can try some out and see which fit your hand best. Something will call out to you.

Some good advice guys. Thanks. I'm not too concerned about SSE since im mainly interested in 1911s and there are plenty on the list. I have a couple polymers for my CCW but for range and fun use I prefer 1911s.

I'm not a big fan of stainless steel finish so my pick comes down to the TRP and Raptor. I like the Armory Kote and overall fit and finish on the TRP but the front strap checkering is a little too aggressive for my bare hands. I also don't like the idea of having any internal safety that can only be unlocked by a key. This is a reason why I only owned pre-lock S&W revolvers. The Raptor is a nice piece with an unique look. It has a nice overall fit and finish and I like the feel in my hand. It lacks a magwell which the TRP has. All the choices are winners in my book, but that Raptor looks so different that I would like one in my stable.

If you can get it, I would go for the VBOB

My opinion, get the TRP or Dan Wesson. Forget Kimber. One year warranty and rusty barrels...

What's the deal with the internal safety? I'm a newb when it comes to 1911's.

80 and 90 series 1911's have a firing pin block and Kimbers come with Schwartz safeties. Some prefer not to have additional things that could fail on their guns.
