    Fancy Mak

Picked this Baikal IJ-70 from a Calgunner a couple weeks ago and replaced the grips with bakelite ones. Also polished the barrel.

Pretty cool. Have you had a chance to fire it?

Nice pistol, sir. Congratulations. My East German model is fairly accurate, very reliable, and well made. If I had reliable hollowpoint ammo I wouldn't hesitate to carry mine in harm's way.

I just read an article that said ball ammo is better in 9x18 and 9x17, stating they don't expand significantly anyway and so maximizing penetration is preferable.

Yes I feel better carrying FMJ in any pistol caliber over HP. 9x18 is underpowered as it is I dont want any expansion slowing down the projectile. Here is an excellent presentation from a surgeon on gunshot wounds.

Thats the old saying at least.
But the 9x18mm Hornady Critical Defense FTX actually performs pretty well and opens up consistently and uniformly. Thats what I currently have in my P-64 but I am thinking of get some Buffalo Bore 115gr Hardcast Flat Nose for winter.

I should give the Hornady fodder a shot. The Cor-Bon stuff I had doesn't feed worth a damn and the Buffalo Bore 34B is better but still not 100% reliable.

As for HP vs. FMJ, there is no contest for me. I will never carry FMJ ammo in a small or medium caliber for self defense unless I had no other choice.

I still have some of the old CCI Blazer loaded with Gold Dots for my EG Mak.

I need to shoot that sucker more.
