I recently purchased a new Glock 17 Gen3. The date for the test shells is October 31, 2014. I took it to the range for the first time today. (I gave it light lubrication before going).
I had four new ten-round magazines with me. I loaded them all to capacity, and inserted them into the magazine well on a closed slide. After racking the slide, the gun went into battery. On all four magazines, after the first shot, the shell casing ejected, but the second cartridge would not go into battery. After clearing the cartridge, the pistol would fire without issues until empty.
This happened repeatedly with each magazine. Each time, after the first shot was fired, the second cartridge would not go into battery. (If, however, I inserted a full magazine on an open slide, and then hit the slide stop button, the pistol would go into battery and fire all ten rounds without any feeding issues. If I downloaded the magazine to nine rounds, and inserted it into a closed slide, there would be no feeding problems. The problem only occurred with a magazine loaded to full capacity (ten rounds) on a closed slide.)
Finally, after experiencing the feeding problem about 2-3 times with each magazine, they started working without any problems. The last 200 rounds were flawless.
Were the initial feeding problems simply a matter of "breaking in" the magazine springs? I've never encountered this issue with my other Glock 9mm Gen3 pistols and magazines. Is this something unique to the recent Gen3s? Thanks in advance for your response.
