My personal preference is V-Line. They use a mechanical lock, as opposed to others (like GunVault?) that are electronic.

The smallest one (about the size of the plaastic case your USP came in) runs about $100 - $120.

Every gun in my house that isn't in my safe is stored in one (I have kids in the house).

I like the GunVault. Easy access and simple design. Biometric is even better, but it costs as much as a new handgun! Just gotta remember to change out the (8) AA batteries every year or so. They come in the mini (holds 1 gun, 2 mags, and surefire) and also the deluxe which holds twice as the mini. Really up to your preference when it comes to storing your gun. Mine makes its nightly trek from vault to my shoulder harness- that eventually lays on my nightstand- ready and set to condition one!

Either way, you wont go wrong.

GunVault, definitely. You have the option of using the electronic keypad - four button on a "palm-shape" pad, or a key - comes with two. I have the mini and the full size. Changing the batteries is a snap.

No kids in the house and none of my friends' kids come by, but gotta lock up the firearms.

I have an extra GunVault, full sized, that I was going to install in the trunk of my car, but never got around to it. If you're still looking for a quick access handgun safe, you can buy it from me. Where are you located? PM me if you're interested or would just like to see how it works.

I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

Do you guys bolt those gun vaults to the floor?
Or just transfer the firearm to your real safe daily?

No problem. Just wanted to put it out there if you were interested or wanted to try it out to see how quickly it is to access.

I was never into the BioMetric mechanism when it came out. I have a fingerprint reader on my laptop that takes me two tries before it can scan me. My hands are too dry. My fingerprint doesn't read well - it's pretty faint. I messed around with too many different caustic chemicals in my youth.

You've got a couple of options: 1) bolt it to the floor with the included bolts, 2) secure it with a steel cable, 3) tucked it in a drawer (I think epoxy will adhere it to the drawer) or 4) keep it as a mobile safe.

I keep my loose cash (if there's any) and a locked and loaded .45 with two extra mags in the GunVault. It sits on my desk, in a cubby hole, bolted to the table, hiding behind a dictionary and a thesaurus. You'd never know it was there. The .45 never goes into the safe - the GunVault is its permanent home.

I like the key lock safes for easy access on the nightstand
when I'm home my key is in the lock and I never leave without my key so its reasonably secure (as much as any small 5 lb safe can be bolted to a nightstand)

I've had an older model gun vault for awhile now, and I wanted to get the bigger one recently. I checked out the biometric models.

The only issue for me is that it took longer for the gun vault to open up using the biometric function, than it takes me to get my regular one open (with practice) using the combo buttons.

Also, the newer gv's have nice, soft press buttons, so you can actually open them even faster than the older models, which had hard rubber covering the combo buttons.

                    My 2 cents.

Thanks man, glad to be here.

So is the consensus, biometric or no biometric???

I was going to get the bio model simply for added security. Or is the normal model secure enough, for kids, guests, ect...

dunno if they're still readily available, but I've had good luck with my DAC Sportsafe. Inexpensive, easy set-up, sturdy.

I use a Barska safe with biometric lock. It takes under 2 sec to open, and it's big enough to fit 4-5 handguns (2 guns and a bunch of ammo in my case). I bought it off Ebay for $140, I believe, it runs for $170-190 nowadays.

The good part is, you don't have to fumble with keys or remembering the combination when it matters, which to me defines the quick access safe

It provides faster access, which matters.
