    1911 gurus, slide work?

I'm looking at a STI to purchase used, it's a good deal, the only thing is I hate the markings on the slide and the sights. Are there shops that will machine a new slide? Is it costly?

This is my first time looking at this as a possibility, so sorry if this is an ignorant ???

How much are you willing to spend? Its kinda expensive. You will need mill or polishing. Why not just buy a new slide for about 500 from caspian. Then all you need is a gunsmith to fit it.

Fit barrel, extractor, ejector, bushing, slide to frame, finishing of slide, plus the cost of a new slide. It's not going to be cheap..i'd guess about $1000-$1500. I'd get new sights, install them yourself and get to like the way the current slide looks

Just thought it a little more. You're probably close to $1200 for parts. Labor is quite a bit more .

Why not just sand down the roll-mark and coat?

Might be easier to fill in the roll mark (weld or bondo) and re-coat

Get a hold of Rob and www.1911doctor.com. His shop can do amazing work. Have seen him fill in cocking serrations and roll marks without a hint they were ever there.
