nikki#2: thanks.. i couldn't find the shadow in the shops, so choice was P01, PCR or SP01 (non tactical)

Sleighter: can you tell me more about the CGW and what i would need to make this P01 lighter trigger pull?

BEE: is that fairly easy to DIY? what are the parts needed to make that happen?

You talk about this all the time. I don't understand why one gets so sensitive when others prefer something you don't? There's millions of gun owners out there, they all don't have to like the same mechanisms. Different strokes...different folks...different reasons.

However, since you're concerned about trigger weight... Most would agree that a stock CZ could use some help in the trigger dept. Just be aware that the decocker mechanism adds complexity.
That SP01 w/ manual safety has the potential for a smoother, lighter trigger pull...... simply because it does not have the decocker.

I'm sitting here testing the trigger pull on my stock PCR (which essentially is a P-01 without the rail). Wish I had a trigger scale, because it's DA is certainly well over 8lbs...
        This^.

The P-01 is a GREAT pistol! Congratulations on the purchase.
Dry firing the CZ will go a long way in smoothing out the trigger, although it takes around 500 repetitions or so.

A question out of interest Nikki.

Can you explain what part interaction inside a CZ decocker would cause it to have less potential for a smooth light trigger? I have seen this stated a few times but have yet to see an explanation of why.

have you considered buying your CZ from CGW?
You can get one brand new with the Pro Package for$950 although you may not have time. regardless i highly recommend having it tuned by CGW. The P-01 is very good gun in the stock configuration, but after you have the full blown trigger job and reach reduction it is a great gun. It makes a world of difference on the trigger.
                just my $.02. YMMV.

You actually don't need to rack the slide or use a snap cap to dry fire practice.

Put a rubber O-ring in the rear slide area where the hammer drops in and contacts the firing pin. The o-ring will prevent the hammer from hitting the firing pin. And no need to rack slide to reset trigger for SA practice. Just pull hammer back.
For DA practice, just keep pulling trigger.

Just remember to remove the o-ring when you put the gun back into live fire use.

If you want to just lighten the double action pull it's pretty easy. Put in an extended firing pin and change the hammer spring to a 13lb one and you will knock a few pounds off of the DA pull. The gun will still be totally reliable.

The full blown work is called the CGW - Pro Package. This package includes everything, then you can fine tune the build to your liking. Typicality David (CGW) gives you a call before starting on your pistol to discuss the build. Browsing the CGW website and talking to David helped me figure out all of the options.
http://cajungunworks.com/ (i hear there is a new website in the works).

Standard turn around time is 4-5 weeks if i remember correctly. This is also dependent on the scope of work you are having done.

As an added note, if you have not checked it out yet. The Original CZ forums is a great forum dedicated to everything CZ. Nice folks over there too.

But hammer, springs, and polishing on a decocker will result in a very nice trigger. Of course, the Shadow models forego the FPB..... but now we're talking degree's of improvement,
on a trigger perhaps best reserved for range/competition.

Someone mentioned they prefer the decocker because they didn't feel the manual safety was not as positive as a 1911. Both of my SP01's and SAO have extremely notchy and positive safeties that are fairly loud. I prefer having the option of manually decocking as well as being able to run cocked and locked.

The main reason I don't like the decocker is when I am tuning the hammer and disconnector, I usually dissassemble the gun a few times until I get the smoothness of the action and the break and reset where I want them. With a decocker, I just install as is and call it a day since it is a PITA to ressasemble and the chances of losing or breaking parts increases each time.

It is also difficult to get decockers to detonate primers reliably with the 8.5 and 11lb recoil springs for some reason. So sub 2lb pulls are extremely difficult to achieve with the decocker. Although with a P01, a 2.5 lb pull is already overkill but using the rear stop setscrew will cause gouging of the frame. So the pull ends up being a bit longer and doesn't have the super short reset and break of my Shadows.

I believe your pictures may have facilitated a few CZ sales.
