Cheap Pistol Thread

OK ... I was participating over at the OT forum there. And Fremont James was talking about cheap Saturday night specials and "throwaway" guns.

Now, that got me started thinking. This actually may be a fun area to start collecting.

What do you all think?

Collect some and get started?

Show me some examples. Maybe this can be a new venue for me to pour more $$$ in too!

If by cheap pistols you mean "the ring of fire" pistols, I have none.
But really, I do not have any anecdotal evidence that points out any of those pistols are "cheap" as in "they only work once".
I do think that in a shtf scenario guys with those pistols will get the drop on the guys who are braggin about their AR's, body armor who claim that "you come to my house you will be treated as a threat!".
When they least expect it a regular Joe with a 22 Jennings will get the upper hand when the braggart less expects it.

I prefer other brands and types of pistols, but personally I don't have anything "bad" to say about the ring of fire guns.

I have a few. Since I couldn't afford buying a $3000 1911 every 6 months, the cheapo guns were my only choice. I like shooting different kinds of guns. It is harder now because of the California roster since most cheapo guns are not on the list - except Hi-Point. The Eastern Bloc military pistols were a nice option 20 years ago. You could buy a Makarov type pistol for about $100, and for another $100 you could get 1,000 rounds of ammo for it.

Ain't there some middle ground b/w ring of fire and 3000$ 1911's?

I had a phoenix arms hp22. It was awesome! Accurate as you could want and cycled everything reliabily. Had the package with the extended barrel and mag to make it a "target version."

I would buy another if I was in the market for a 22 pistol in a heartbeat. I have heard of others having problems but not me.

TS77 hit the nail right on the head...
they are great fun for the money in other states but here it's just not worth paying around or less 100 dollars for then and almost as much again in taxes and fees.

I had some bad experience with a unreliable Jennings j-22 , a ring of fire gun, (that wasn't actually mine) but it's turned me off paying all that fee money to the state, for a diecast pot metal pistol. (fun but will not worth the money.)

if there were a market of cheap c&r pistols I might think about paying those high fees for them.

Kinda want a C9 just to have if stuff goes down. Couldn't imagine having to relinquish my cz's, springfields, etc...

But then again, I'd use any one of them to protect myself and family... So never mind of the C9. LOL.

I am a C&R collector most of the time. I occasionally get the odd (very old) cheap pistol, just because they are fun, and, well, cheap. I probably have at least half a dozen .32 S&W or .38 S&W top-break, or other design pistols that have cost $50 or less. They are fun, and for as much as I shoot them, very amusing. For the most part, they are just decorations at this point. I see nothing wrong with them. Collect away when it comes to something that interests you.

Yes, by "cheap" you mean "inexpensive".
I think the OP is referring to "cheap" as "throw-away, poor quality, single use & inexpensive" guns.
C&R's even inexpensive ones, do not fit this description.

My $400 out the door Canik TP9SA is my favorite striker pistol. I like it better than my Glock 17 Gen 4, PPQ, and M&P 9.

$400 seems cheap to me when the others range from 500-800.

Yes ... I am thinking about going along the lines of this route.

I see ... maybe, a trip to either NV or AZ in the not-to-distant future for me.

I am also interested in "throw-away" or as they say "ring-of-fire" guns... However, I am now thinking that the stupid California permission slip, (roster), is making this untenable.
