Yes. Maybe even on the same DROS, but not entirely sure. The HSC takes like 15 minutes from start to when you have your card. It really isn't that big of a deal, then you can get your hand on as many guns as you can buy! Let us know what you choose op

      Thanks for all the input!

After doing some reading, I'm leaning towards the using my SSE to purchase the Walther PPQ. Realizing my time is running out, will this be practical? And, what will the approximately be the added costs for the conversion?

As much as I'd like to buy one, I won't overpay for it.

I'd forget the SSE circus at this point. Just go to a good gun shop (and we need to support them even if their prices are a little higher) in your area and buy a Calif. compliant Sig P226 9mm or any other legal Sig model in the caliber of your choice. You won't be disappointed. I have two of them that are Calif. compliant. Do I like our restrictive laws? No, but I'm living with it and hoping the sun will come up another day.

Start calling around tomorrow as most FFLs are backed up with the end of year crush on SSE. Also, ask if they are able to SSE a Walther PPQ, if they have any in stock or how long will it take to get one in.
(I don't think Bass Pro does SSE)

PPQ is a good choice. It and the VP9 are currently the most discussed 'new' striker fired pistols here on calguns.
I would check with Tracy Rifle and Pistol on availablity. Their pricing are usually very competitive. Other FFLs that does SSE are Metal Dog (San Jose), Brian Nussbaum (Burlingame), Solar Tactical (Livermore). Each has their own SSE policy and fee that generally add about $100 extra.
I think the estimated out the door price for a regular 9mm PPQ M2 4" should be around $700 - $750. Others can confirm.
If you are quoted for much more, an alternative is to buy one online (grabagun - ca friendly) or from audiophil (calgun vendor) and have it shipped to Digital Instinct (Sunnyvale) or Mt Pleasant Arms (San Jose) for transfer and SSE.

Check out Triple A in Vallejo - they have a lot of SSE inventory. http://www.tripleas2.com/Important-Information.html

And yes you can buy as many long guns as you want and a pistol on the same DROS. You can also buy multiple pistols on one DROS if only one of them is from dealer inventory and the rest are PPT. I have bought three pistols and two rifles on a single DROS recently, and my personal record is seven guns on one DROS. I usually always try and buy as many on a single DROS as possible to save on the fees.

PPQ is a good choice. Try RMB Enterprises in Milpitas. Closer than Tracy or Manteca. MPArms is not doing any more sse.

Very nice people in there...don't settle for the ppq just because people recommended it. If you want a 1911, get it! You can also order from an online vendor and have it shipped there if they don't have what you want...if you can find anything in stock lol

welcome OP, that test you have to take, how do i put it nicely

IF YOU FAIL THAT TESTI WILL COME FROM ALL THE WYA IN VEGAS TO B****SLAP YOU IF YOU FAIL!!!!!

its really that easy, honestly if you fail that test you should not own a firearm

but going back to some things you mentioned, and i am no expert by any means, but the 1911 platform has some going for 500 600 dollars all the way up to 4000+ maybe higher i havent looked, if this is your first handgun, i would no recommend a 1911 to start off with, also that is to assume you are inexperienced with handguns, again i dont know your skillset, so please know i do not mean to offend you, but the answer is really what do you want to buy a handgun for???

its its for personal defence i would recommend an glock 19, M&P 9 a compact model.

home defense a full size in 45 or 9, sorry im not a fan of 40 cal but ive heard great things about it, just me

find someone to explain to you what SSE is and what part fo the BAY area EXACTLY are you from, i was born and raised in San Jose, I know some good FFLs dealers that with Single SHot EXemption, SSE, for you and not rip you off.

because SSE is going away, i would recommend you get an SSE Firearm as they will not be available after january 1st.

and a good amount of 1911s will still be available.
PM me if you need any help also a lot of guys one here are knowledgeable

so dont hesitte to ask. bu do hurry it wold be a damn shame if you didnt get the firearm you really want and after jan 1st its not readily available, as a lot fo people on here are speculating that the market place firearms are going to go up in price alot after the 1st.

                          Good luck OP

Also, I recall the prices were much more reasonable then! $499 for the a Glock and about $400 for quality 1911.

                            What happened?!
Glocks are still $499. In 2001 I bought a Glock for $509. Now that same model sells for $499. Not only has inflation not touched the Glocks in the last century, the price is actually a few bucks less.
So um... moon labia or something.

LOL...GoNavy offers good advice. Usually, the time to buy is when everyone is selling, and vice-versa.

I'm assuming that I will buy more handguns in the future. In this sense, a CA legal gun, many 1911s or Sig P229s, will be available in the future, while SSEs will not. While I'm not willing to overpay, the Walther PPQ appears cost effective and a nice enough gun to start my collection.

Next year, once I have my HG permit and stuff, I can always add a 1911 or the Sig.

I will buy a 1911, either now, or in the future.

If the PPQ proves too much of a hassle or the premium too high, then I'll likely just pick up a Colt 1911. Otherwise, I don't mind picking up a PPQ, assuming its price doesn't inflate too much, now and a 1911 next year.

Like most hobbies, you set out to buy one, then after a while, you can see yourself buying several.
