Can I borrow an AR pistol upper to dros

Hoping a fellow calgunner can help me out in a pinch. The holidays are around and funds are tight after gifts and bills and I cannot afford to purchase an upper to DROS my pistol lower. I'm in the Santa Clarita area and if someone is willing to lend me their upper I would be extremely grateful. I have an aim point optic and a Daniel Defense upper for collateral during the DROS period. The time I would need it is between 12/31 to 1/10.

Do you need an upper to DROS? I thought you only need the serial numbered lower to DROS.

Pistol SSE I believe needs the upper.

AR pistol need to do safety demonstration must be configured into firing shape to be DROS'd. Unfortunately my LGS does not have any uppers for rental.

If they are FFL 07 they can manufacture/install an upper for you (if they choose to) Otherwise it must be received complete.

I have already paid for the lower in full at my LGS months ago. They are just so full of orders that they do not any uppers available for rent. That's why I'm asking if someone can loan me theirs.

Yep, that's what I did a while back. I had a complete lower delivered, supplied the upper at the time of DROS, and paid a Federal Excise Tax.

Tall order, so if you cannot find anyone, the ONLY thing you need is an upper receiver, charging handle, bolt carrier group, and a pistol barrel. You do not need a gas block, gas tube, handguard, flash hider, or anything else. You can strip the bulk of those parts from one of your existing AR's, leaving you with the cost of a cheap, used, throw-away barrel, which you can probably find in the classifieds here, or the EE listings on arfcom.

Is it going to be a problem if you use a rifle upper to DROS or there is a maximum length limit on the barrel for an AR pistol?
