1911 sight pusher

Wasn't sure if this would fare better here or somewhere else, so please bear with me.

I am in the process of refinishing my Springfield 1911 and had to smack my sights off in order to get them off the slide. I got them off, but they sure took a beating. Because of this, I am buying another set of sights and I was hoping someone here has an MGW or another type of good sight pusher for a 1911 that I could borrow once I started putting my gun back together.

I'd be happy to pay for shipping. I haven't finished my slide and frame yet, so I wouldn't need it for a little while. If you're local, I'd be happy to buy you a six pack of your favorite brew!

Please let me know if you can help out. Probably going to go with Warrens for my new sights and really don't want to smack them like I did my novaks.

An MGW sight pusher will do the rear sight, but it will have issues with the front sight. You'll probably have better luck finding a gunsmith to put the sights on for you.

I can brass punch the front sight. I just need the pusher for the rear. The front sight was no more difficult than any other dovetail sight.

Look on Ebay. A while back I saw a post about a sight pusher some one bought. It was very reasonably priced and was modular enough to do most guns. Also, Glock store has a couple of models that work on very much any gun.

If you can find someone to borrow one great; but I installed my rear sights (Glock 35) with the help of Dawson Precision video. I had to do a little filing to make them fit. Best of luck.

I recently ordered this, not sure how well it works since I haven't had time to use it but I assume it would work very well for a 1911 since the slide sides are flat.

Thanks for the heads up on that one. It looks easy enough to use. If I can't find one to borrow then maybe I'll just have to buy one. I hate the idea of spending money on a tool I'll probably never use after one project.

You can do what they call a "slip fit". It's where you file/sand the sight (or the dovetail) so that the sight will go in with finger pressure or a few light taps of a plastic/rubber hammer.

There's typically a set screw that helps keep it in place. What really keeps it in place is Loctite or epoxy. It sounds scary but it's really not. The Loctite/epoxy is easily broken down via heat from a lighter or heat gun. This is how I have my Novak installed on my 1911, my Heinie on my G35, and my Warren on my G34. You don't add it to the thread, just the base/dovetail area. A little drop goes a long ways. It's not permanent and easily removed with heat.
