Colt Python refinishing help

So I picked up my first Python today appears to be from 79' and is a 6" and a shooter with some holster wear and pitting by the end of the barrel. Shocking the grips look almost new.

Since there is pitting especially I think refinishing is in order , sending it to colt for a re blue is what most would do.

Is cerakoting crazy would I be struck by Lightning ? Not saying I would do it but it crossed my mind for a shooter, along with a front sight that's more attractive.

I sent in my Python and police positive into Colt last year to be re-blued. They weren't in poor shape, probably 90%, but I wanted them to be pristine so that I could pass them down. When I got them back the bluing was blotchy and there were hairline scratches all over! I sent them back again and received them in similar condition. Colts master smiths and fine equipment are a thing of the past. Colt was not able to resolve my issue, and now I've got some revolvers that are less than pristine.

I made a thread topic about it, you won't have to dig far to find it. I think I titled it "furious with Colt refinishing".

It is an old Colt, don't sweat it. Fixing the pitting won't always make the bullets go faster.

Because the old Colt masters and machining are no longer there. Kind of sad, but if you want it blued right, Colt is not the way to go

OP in that thread used Bob Cogan of Accurate Plating in Alabama - apparently they also do work for Colt. Be sure to check out the 'after' pics on page 3, including after the new grips were added at the bottom half of page 3.

Check out Ken Genecco Gun Works, Stockton, CA. He specializes in bluing Colt Pythons and is one of the best.

DO your research and send it to someone specialized in refinishing. From what I have heard Colt's turn around time is horrendous and the prices can not be much different.

Skyhawk thank you that thread was awesome. Didn't know I could matte chrome it, that would look pretty darn slick and it should be easy to remove the pitting as its way minor in comparison to that whole gun they worked on wow !!

No, none of that fancy bluing, nickel plating, or hard chrome silliness.

Green Duracoat is the only way to go.
