    Sig P229R-9mm .22 Conversion?

I've read in a couple of places that Sig's conversion kit for this pistol, for the railed P229, will not work with the Calif. legal P229 due to the magazine disconnect.

I've posted the question on the Sig Forum, but that's a nationwide forum and while the folks there are really helpful, they understandably aren't as focused on Brownafornia as we are here.

Does anyone know if there is a .22 conversion kit compatible with the Calif. legal P229R 9mm/E2 that I recently bought?

I do plan to phone a couple of vendors but I also want to tap the knowledge here.

It's confirmed that the .22 conversion kit does not work with models with a magazine disconnect.

I had a P229EE. The plastic .22 magazine was too shallow to engage the Mag disconnect.

Sig recognizes it at the end of the description on their prodiduct page. http://store.sigsauer.com/p229r-rail...rsion-kit.html

Thank you, Elysium. That's a disappointment for sure, but at least it's not the reason I bought the P229R, which I'm happy to own. Just another penalty for living in Taxifornia.

So I guess the remedy is to replace the locking block with regular one?

Another solution could be building out a nub or bump on the magazine so it touches the disconnect by using an epoxy or putty compound. This maybe your cheapest fix.

Would you use epoxy to do that?

Replace the locking block. You can obtain a standard one any place Sig parts are sold. This effectively removes the mag disconnect for the p229R.

If you fell compelled to keep the MG, swap them back after use.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'm getting the impression that someone with no gunsmithing experience can swap out the locking block on the Sig P229? Is that pretty straightforward, and mostly idiot-proof?

It works, meaning you can shoot 22 on your 229.

If the slide won't lock back on an empty mag, does that mean it's worthless?

I don't know, but I want the slide to lock back on an empty mag. Are you saying that the slide won't lock back on an empty if I remove the mag disconnect? If so, I'm going to drop the idea of that modification.

Slide does not lock back for the 22 conversion kit on any sig P series pistol. The magazines do not support it in the conversion kits. You can purchase the Black Dog magazine followers for the Sig 522 rimfire rifle to correct this.

Thanks, Dyson. I should have specified caliber. If I modify the mag disconnect on my P229 to accept the .22 conversion kit, will the slide still lock back on an empty standard, unmodified, Calif. legal 9mm magazine?
